Daniel R. Sennema was exposed to music at a very early age. At the age of 4, he remembers staying up past his bedtime to listen to his father's barbershop quartet, The Henchmen, rehearse. His mother introduced him to the piano before he could read. His mother and father still sing in the church choir at Shandon Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC. His grandfather, the late Carl Sennema, was a full-time musician, church organist, director, and piano instructor.

Eli's first grade teacher called him "her little pitch-pipe" and he soon auditioned for the "Time For Sounds" television show with Arletta Railey on ETV where he sang on location and in the studio until his family moved to Fairfax, VA. It was there, at the age of 12, that Eli was told by his guitar instructor that he would "never make a lead guitar player, maybe rhythm" which instilled him with great confidence.

At the age of 13, however, Daniel discovered the bass guitar and convinced his parents to help him purchase a Gibson Grabber Bass and a Sunn Amplifier that barely fit in the back of the VW Bus. Eli went on to sing in church choirs and sang for the Singing Generals in Springfield, Illinois under the directin of Larry Moose.

At 13, he formed his first working band. "We used to play all the local teen skating rinks as well as for the Civitans and the Woman's Club. We called ourselves Airborne because that sounded pretty cool when we were young".

His early exposure to making music continued through high school and college as Sennema played bass guitar in an assortment rock bands including Hyjynx, Rude Lucy, and Scruffy Moses. Sennema also began performing solo, with only his acoustic guitar and harmonica..

During his formative years, his bands opened for such major acts as Nightranger, Rick Derringer, the Outlaws, Alvin Lee, and Rare Earth and Blackfoot. He once shared the stage with the late Danny Joe Brown of Molly Hatchet fame.
His most recent band, Southern Blue, performs regularly at the Carolina Ampitheatre and the North Myrtle Beach House of Blues.

Siting influences such as Led Zeppelin, Johnny Cash, ZZ Topp, The Eagles, and the Doors, 2004 brought the release of Weed's first solo recording, "Tales of the Strand - Volume 1."
December 2006 brought the release of "Tales of the Strand- Volume 2." The projects were recorded in Myrtle Beach, SC, at Island Green Studios and mastered at the Diskfaktory in Irvine, CA. Sennema plays all the instruments on his CD's. Tales Volume 1 blends his soft romantic style with spirited acoustic rockers showcasing Weed's range and versatility. Although the acoustic guitar continues to play a prominent roll in Sennema's songs, Tales 2 is more upbeat and electric than Tales 1 and incorporates keyboards and synthesizer as well.

Sennema's CD releases, "Tales of the Strand - Volumes 1 and 2", are a retrospective look at life on the Grand Strand. Cuts from his CD are currently enjoying airplay on "Dead Dog Saloon's Homegrown" on The Sound 107.1.

Tales 2 is available through Best Buy retail outlets by request and on the web at CDBaby.com and BestBuy.com.

Catch Sennema on tour now with Southern Blue and occasionally with the enigmatic Low Tide Bandits.

REVIEWS

This CD is one of the most under-rated of the last year.

This CD showcases an astounding diversity of styles, yet the songs blend nicely from one selection to the next. The song "Two Ways" stands out as very downloadable as do "Hey Wally-Wally", and bikers will love "Bike Week Days".
