Second Person was formed in early 2002 and comprises singer/pianist Julia Johnson, producer/bassist Mark Maclaine and drummer Al Lopez. This band brings together elements of Hip-Hop, Jazz, Drum’n’Bass and Rock fusing them with strong song writing to form a unique sound that is Post Trip-Hop.
Described as “The next big thing” by The Independant (UK): this English three-piece contrast beautiful vocals with dark bass lines, sublime piano riffs and powerful beats. Their emotive song-writing style, killer hooks and distinctly lo-fi sound has lent itself perfectly to picture and their music credits include a set of feature film scores, work for numerous international broadcasters and film companies.
Second Person are as good live as they are recorded, capturing the beauty and emotion of their songs whilst not loosing the complex sound-scapes and space that have defined their sound.

Genuinely original talent
author: Iain Thomson
At first listen this album sounds like a typical Portishead/Massive Attack clone but as it progresses you hear some really original stuff.
Second Person are a very British band from their sound but there's some excellent undertones and everything from low jazzy numbers to music that you'd love to hear in both the dance floor or the chill out room.

Amazing!
author: Anna Cunningham
Much of the music that makes it to TV and radio really sucks. The music press go on about how amazing it all is: how the latest pop album will change my life or this sound-the-same-as-everyone-else rock band is the next big thing etc etc. In the 90s when I heard a band was good I would go out and buy their cd, often it was great but in the last 10 years everything has got so much worse but the reviews seem to have got better... now I just don't bother reading music magazines any more, listening to the radio or watching music tv. I find CDs by seeing what my friends are listening to and talking to people who's musical opinion I trust... One band that a lot of my friends seemed to like was some British band Second Person. We only had CD-R copies (with only the first 8 tracks) and no way of getting it here... then I saw it on iTunes and then here on CDBaby and I had to get a copy. Amazing! I opened it up today and it's not going to leave my car stereo for at least the next 6 months. Her voice is just amazing and the whole sound is so honest and real. There should be more music out there like this! I love it.

Great record
author: Michael Walters
What a great record! I'd never really got into bands like Portishead or Massive Attack - or any of the other bands that people say these guys remind them of. I can see similarities (tracks like I Spy) but this album really has a whole different feel to those other bands, it’s got quite an open sound to the drums and keys and there is a great sense that everything has been sang/played with such feeling and passion. I like the order of the tracks too, sort of a progression from dark to light as you go through the album. It’s an album I can sit down and listen to over and over again and each time find a new sound or instrument that I’d never heard before. I love the album more now than ever! If I ever met the band I'd have to shake them firmly by the hand and say thank you for writing this work of art.
