Album Notes

LONG SONGS ARE BORING.
Which is why Secret Apollo’s new album, Homemade Time Machine, is about as un-boring as it gets. The songs are short. And catchy. And they waste no time in kicking your ass. We like to call them "short songs by tall people" (because we're tall).

Half as long. Twice as catchy. You'd better learn how to use the "repeat" button.

MEET THE BAND.
It's nice to meet you. We are Secret Apollo and we are Amber (bass, vocals, milkshakes), Adam (vocals, guitar, Red Vines), and Steve (drums, Miller Lite).

Since 2004, we’ve been touring the world*, building up a long list of devoted fans and jealous enemies. Like most musicians, we don't like describing our music or comparing ourselves to other bands, because we are so amazingly original. But if bribed with candy, we could say we sound a little like the Pixies, a little like Pavement, and a little like Guided By Voices. Maybe.

PEOPLE THINK WE'RE COOL.
Why think for yourself? Here’s what others have had to say about our music:

"'Homemade Time Machine' is a freak-out punk extravaganza. But not your normal punk, but a power pop punk rock adventure. Catchy female vocals with male vocals harmonize with slightly nasal undertones that would fit perfect in that local garage band you’ve heard stories about. Upbeat songs that are quick and to the point with a sneering sense of humor drawn in."
Smother Magazine

“I was sort of anticipating The Pixies’ “Debaser” to break out of my speakers at any given second. The experimental mix of good ‘ol rock ‘n’ roll with harmonized duet that this three-piece produces is fun and exhilaratingly happy.”
San Diego Citybeat 2005 Demo Review

“Secret Apollo are brief, to the point, and musically charming in the process. Their song-writing, although concise, is fairly innovative and certainly polished. Their tunes are catchy, lyrics funny, and they have a good sense of humor about themselves.”
SDMusicMatters (www.sdmusicmatters.com)

“I [heart] Amber. Seriously.”

excerpt from "Anti-Rock hypothesis as relates to one Secret Apollo"

Recognizing Anti-Rock is not an exact science, of course. For instance, you may find similarities to Rock that throw off your evaluation. Things such as clear and powerful production, high energy and excellent instrumentation can be found in both genre's. However, there is a certain cleverness and self awareness that good Anti-Rock possesses that distinguishes it from it's genetic cousin. For instance, when Secret Apollo opens (Homemade Time Machine) with a song called “Rock Out”, the irony isn't lost, and one can establish that the song is more closely related to The Pixies than to Cinderella. Likewise, when Adam of Secret Apollo sings on the afore-quoted song, “Universe”, one can hear the distinctly clear and annunciated vocals and no doubt be reminded of They Might Be Giants, a proven Anti-Rock specimen. Tracks like “Completely” and “Standing All Day” bring to mind The Presidents of the United States of America, another three piece group whose simple and clean Anti-Rock structures lend themselves to foot tapping fun, while solidly steering clear of Rock conventions and problems.
