REVIEWS

An excellent combination of traditional classics and new favorites.
author: Thomas Hicks
Seelie Court's music, and their CD Raise Up A Glass in particular, is like a fine old book store. Just inside the door you'll find recent periodicals and the current best sellers that will more than satisfy the cursory glance. But for those who have time to linger and savor, there are also new classics and rare treasures to be discovered again and again. This CD mixes great, traditional favorites with brand new hits from a group that strives to constantly reinvent their particular area of musical expertise. The task is to discern which tunes are old and which are brand new. The group is so studied in their genre that they are able to apply traditional arrangements and vocalizations to their own compositions. Lively reels and aires are sprinkled liberally among whimsical shanties and moving ballads to provide a spectrum of traditional/celtic music at it's best. This CD will be a cornerstone in the library of any avid lover and collector of fine celtic music.
