CD REVIEW - 'Comme ci, comme ca'
The Weekend Australian - Kevin Jones
Sydney Singer Janet Seidel has cast her net wide into the easy listening market with this album of American and French standards with a Gallic accent.
She is in the tradition of singers who might not improvise much but sing good songs with a strong jazz flavour.
Singing in both French and English, she is in fine form, her warm voice subtly adding so much to the lyrics that it's easy to lay back and let the music wash over you.
The opening track 'And the Angels sing' sets the standard for a disc whose best moments are 'The Windmills of your mind' a moving 'l'éte 42' (the summer of 42) and 'J'attendrai'.
Pianist Kevin Hunt backs her admirably. His playing is a source of enjoyment as is the smooth tenor and Paul Desmond inspired alto of Bob Jeffery.
Forget categories: chalk this one up for good music.

We first heard this CD at a beach bar in Thailand and it sounded great. Hoping to rekindle the experience we immediately searched for it when we came home. You will be surprised at how easy it is to sing along with this lovely chanteuse! Songs are sometimes half french and then english. Great dinner and cocktail party music. Glad we found her and would definately buy more of her work!
Enjoy

Great CD. I recommend it without hesitation.

I heard two selections from this CD on CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp)radio about 5:30 am one morning and really enjoyed it. I followed up with an internet search and found that the usual stores in Canada didn't carry it, but 'CD Baby' came to the rescue and gave prompt service from Oregon. The artist's french and english are both exceptionally melodic and pleasant listening. We are enyoying the selections very much.

Yet another great one--another side
author: Ed Goodstein
This one took a little while to creep up on me-- but have to say that it's another fine one from Janet. It captures the 'feel' of French pop/jazz song without being
gimmicky, and the brightness mixed with a shade of melancholy in her voice is very appealing. She is subtle and doesn't 'belt,' but in her own quiet way shows on every album a lot of different aspects. Fine accompaniment throughout too
I think.
