Album Notes

Japanese performance artist and vocalist Lun*na Menoh and Korean producer/thereminist Sukho Lee met through Los Angeles' underground electronic scene. Lun*na's background is in fashion design and performance art, which she incorporates into the band through her unique costumes and humorous performances. Sukho Lee's background in classical music has helped him to become an accomplished and respected theremin player. Theremin is an instrument that is played without physical contact and pre-dates the synthesizer. Sukho's musicianship allowed him the opportunity to tour twice with Damon Suzuki, lead singer of the legendary 60's German psychedelic rock band CAN. Together Lun*na and Sukho put on one of the most visually stimulating multimedia shows around which features a large, anatomically correct robot named Erector (created by Victor White), and far-out video projections, in addition to their arousing music.

Seksu Roba has performed with Peaches, Tipsy, Fantastic Plastic Machine and Lydia Lunch, as well as label mates dj me dj you and Anubian Lights. They have toured in Europe, Mexico, and around the U.S. West Coast.

Pleasure Vibrations (Eenie Meenie Records) is the second album by Seksu Roba and will be released simultaneously in Europe on the Crippled Dick Hot Wax label. Like their predecessors and inspirations - Giorgio Moroder, Cabaret Voltaire, and Yellow Magic Orchestra - Seksu Roba values a solid, danceable groove to keep things moving while giving the listener something to ponder upon repeated listening.

Sukho Lee arranges layers of lines and hooks that evoke the beauty and elegance of works by film composers like Ennio Morricone and Michel LeGrand as well as classic Brazilian songwriters like Marcos Valle and Caetano Veloso. The breadth of styles and sounds on Pleasure Vibrations is diverse - space disco, bossa nova, electro-funk, Latin rhythms, 60's pop and more-but not without direction or reason. Underlying the seemingly disparate elements is a modern sensual sound.

dreamy, psychedelic-o Asian concoction
author: Ashley-O
What first caught my eye was the album art, and then I sampled the tracks and bought the CD soon after. It's dreamy, spacy, and fantastical; almost dream-like. It's fun to listen to-something an art buff like me would appreciate. It's not thought-provoking and serious, which is good; it's a nice change from mainstream. It's more sensory oriented, conjuring pictures and rhythms in the mind. It's good...it's on my iPod. :D

Flavorful, metropolitan electronic dance music
author: Raymond Kim
One word to describe Seksu Roba: Flavorful. it's electronic music, but it's not house, trance, techno, or electro. It's in a class of its own, which is a good thing. Perhaps the music would be best described as electro-tinged house. The melodies are great to nod your head to, but it's got the beats to shake your bons bons if you'd like. The music contained herein would be best heard on a drive out into town on a weekend night, preferrably somewhere like Santa Monica.

astronaut ice cream that doesn't taste like crap
author: Justin Strout
far from tasting like crap, this space age retro yummyness was one of the best albums of last year that i didn't hear until this year. does that makes sense? well, if that didn't, this should: this album is awesome. focusing on vibes, rather than a repetitive sound track of drum and bass and that's it, seksu roba shines on this incredibly colorful and cool looking CD. the vocalist here, lun*na, sings clever lyrics - combining a lovely shriek and a steady, breathy whisper into one of the most refreshing vocal patterns in recent electronica memory. and you know that electronics never forget, especially the ones that don't use batteries. according to their website, they use this thing called a theremin and apparently the instrument has been used in some of my favorite songs/bands, but i have never heard it sound like this. i'm lacking the ability to even depict this heavenly orchestration, but it essentially needs to be heard. i guess thats why you have the ability to go up to the upper left hand corner of this website and sample some of this tasty astronaut ice cream! if you like electronica - this is a must have. if you don't - this is a must "try", cause this is unlike anything that exists within the genre.

the telephone is ringing... but you're not home...
author: The Ace of Hearts
I discovered Seksu Roba after noticing their mention in an internet personals ad. I listened a sample track and put Pleasure Vibrations in my shopping cart. Soon after, I stuck it in my car's CD player, put the top down, and drove all the way to Del Taco. The vocals are adorable, with Telephone a stand out track. I am not a dance music fan in general - I tend to find most of it repetitive - but what makes this album especially good is its combination of solid, grooving, danceable music with innovative compositional strategies that transcend the realm of common dance music. A very 'LA' disc and great for late night drives to Del Taco.
