SelectBands.com Volume 1 brings together the best 11 underground New York City rock artists found in 2003. The music was found through live shows and internet searches then the best artists were approached to participate on the album. The CD includes:
- Collider "1991" - A bass riff intense anthem expressing angst against the newest generation not understanding everything started in 1991. Produced by Tommy Ramone.
- Sunday Luck "In My Life Again" - Cutting guitars and vocals flush out the rekindling of a relationship. Radio-ready track from a Long Island band.
- Greener "Little" - Insecurity and self-loathing feels like roadrash from a nasty skateboard spill. Heavier sounding Long Island band gets compared to Nirvana, Foo Fighters, and Incubus (on other tracks).
- Theo Eastwind "Rite of Passage" - 8 years playing subway platforms in NYC shape this songwriter's track about mortality. Theo conjures up images of Jeff Buckley, Kurt Cobain, Nick Drake and a handful of other late superstars.
- Simon's Awake "Saturday" - Funky rock challenge to live your life and stop whining because the world could end on Saturday. Very Red Hot Chili Peppers
- Lower Lot "Hedonism" - Heavy bass, live your life to the fullest English sound. Makes you want to drink more.
- THIS "Oh Yeah" - Punk rip on life's disappointments including a great riff and naughty words.
- Banana Fish Zero "I Like A Lot" - This trio sounds like AC/DC and Presidents of the United States of America colliding. Just as the track name suggests it is a celebration of the love of overdoing just about everything rock and roll (sex, drugs, and well, the rock and roll is built in).
- Daddy "Your Rose" - Goth explosion of incredible and original instrumentation with a female lead whose voice shifts from soaring to growling. Unique in the NYC scene and favored by Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth.
- Simantik "Plow" - Grinding Nirvana guitars and vocals. You'll swear Kurt's not totally gone.
- Laura Thomas "Hey Boy" - Lyrical luring of a boy's attention from a Melissa Etheridge/Ani Difranco style, yet straight female artist.
SelectBands.com website wants real music fans to vote for the tracks they like. The votes are used to help developing artists get the attention they deserve.
