Album Notes

The music from Select Start's first single from Extended Play, "Black Hair That's to Dye For", will being airing in February in an extreme sports/Motocross-themed national TV commercial.

The ad agency declared the song, "The best power pop rock to motocross by."

Select Start's Extended Play is a seamless five song compilation of infectious melodies, captivating harmonies, with a diversity which attacks from the moment you "Select Start" until the EP stops spinning.

Select Start's musical vibe is a blend of power-pop, rock, and punk with a touch of emo. The Select Start sound centers on driving guitars, awesome bass lines, flawless drumming, and a touch of 80's synth rock. The favorite fan description: An 'audiogasm'.

Formed in 2003 when musicians from The Kooks and For the Lost decided to start a band solely for the love of creating music, and the dream of making music as a career one day, Select Start's dream has begun.

Last summer, Select Start recorded, mixed and produced Extended Play at Trumpet Punch (a bedroom studio on a P4/Protools LE/MBox). It was during these sessions that a cameraderie formed which led the EP's producer to join the band in October.

While Select Start's members are still in college, they are determined to get their music out to everyone willing to listen as they play as many local shows as their schedules permit. Select Start is attracting a strong loyal following and is well liked and respected by their peers.

With an increase in shows in 2005, Select Start continues to perfect its live act, as the band works to complete their full-length release mid-2005. They have opened for national touring bands such as Houston Calls, Junior Varsity, and This Day and Age and look forward to opening for a major National act in 2005.

To gain state-wide exposure, they hope to showcase the Florida Music Festival in May and play the Florida stops of the 2005 Warped Tour. at JAX Aug 4th, Tampa Aug 5th, Orlando Aug 6th and Miami Aug 7th.

They actively seek college and alternative radio airplay and e-zine and music press reviews. While currently unsigned, Select Start is working to build a following which will result in signing with management, legal, and label teams who believe in their music and who will work as hard as they do to get their music heard.

"We're On the Run! Horizons are our stop signs." Select Start - "Relief and Replays"

Dynamic power (punk) pop has rarely been bottled up and set loose in the explosive style that Select Start convey. Just how forceful is the kick? Enough to gain the attention of Sendtec TV for an extreme sports themed National TV commercial. (Click here to view the actual commercial) Formed in 2003 with one piece still missing from the puzzle, Select Start didn’t let the inadequacy stop them from beginning their dream. A full length record was quickly started and recorded drawing from their catchy influences of Fall Out Boy, Weezer, NOFX, Green Day, and Motion City Soundtrack. Soon after completing the record, Select Start still weren’t content and had more to say. Now beginning work on a new EP, Joe Guerra was introduced to Matt Reisinger (synth, guitar) who was just what they were looking for. Reisinger joined the band, completed the lineup, and as we all like to say, the rest is history. Select Start are currently recording yet another full length album with the quartet in place, which is being slated for an August 2005 release. SS have previously shared the stage with hot Drive-Thru Records acts Adelphi, Self Against City, and Houston Calls.

Select Start is better than your average emo-pop trend jumper and displays an a$

"Select Start is better than your average emo-pop trend jumper. The five-song EP i sheavier, looser and more adventurous than most; interesting riffs, hooks, arrangements and lyrics abound. It's unfortunate, then, that the vocals and harmonies immediately recall about a million similar outfits (particularily The Get Up Kids - "chapter Two" could almost be a cover), because some jaded listeners are gonna hear 'em and dig no deeper. Which sucks, because the final two songs here -- one (All Else Just Failed) a lengthy, crushing mid-tempo angst-fest and the other (Chapter 3) a sparse anguished voice and guitar snippet -- are worth the price of admission alone." - Scott Harrell
