Recorded in NYC, Selena Mars' self released debut Ep "Empty" is being well received in the College Rock community as are her energetic live performances.
Selena's unusual voice caught the attention of producers like platinum award winning Chiba Antoine (Destiny's Child/Beck), with whom she collaborated with on several projects, including songs for the feature film "The Evening". She also worked with Talvin Singh (Madonna/Bjork), Dave Goodman (Jackson 5/Sex Pistols), Imani Coppola, En Esch of KMFDM/Chris Flam (Public Enemy/Korn) for a Rawkus Records compilation, and recorded with members of Social Distortion and The Crystal Method.
Her musical influences are broad; ranging from Bjork to Nina Simone, Radiohead, Grace Jones, Massive Attack, Cessaria Evora, Sly and the Family Stone, and the Pixies to name a few. Her own sound blends Beatlesque type rock, and modern, catchy pop hooks. Her lyrics are silmultaneously raw and astute, drawn from experiences both happy and some less so. The vintage recording gear she uses and live instruments add an unusual warmth and human quality to her songs.
