ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Conceived and formed in Louisville, Ky. in early 2000, Seluah immediately surfaced as a provocative departure from the city’s well-regarded independent music scene. By combining skillful musicianship with a stylish mix of Trip-hop, Post rock, Ambient and Dub influences, Seluah creates innovative music that is both beautiful and accessible; Ambient yet substantial. Passionately engaging solid rhythms and erotic, searching melodies, Seluah crafts truly entrancing and breathtaking music. The group’s unique warm sound has been favorably described as melding elements of Massive Attack, Portishead, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, and The Ventures.
Seluah consists of four respected touring musicians: Guitarists Andrew Killmeier (Boom-Bip) and Matt Johnson (Boom-Bip, People Noise), along with Drew Peace on bass & Edward Grimes (Rachel’s, Quarterstick Records) on drums and vocals.

Seluah’s self-titled debut EP has earned very enthusiastic press, including raves such as, “One of the best records to ever come out of Louisville” (Louisville Eccentric Observer), “A psych-dub masterpiece,” (Ear X-tacy) & “In a just World, this album would go down in history...recognizable only by those who hear it, having no equal or nothing with which to compare” (DW Box.) Upon the release of their self-titled EP, It was universally embraced by those who reviewed it. The band was featured on the cover of Louisville Music News. The Louisville Courier-Journal’s respected music editor, Jeffrey Lee Puckett reviewed the album to a near-perfect 3 ½ stars out of 4, with the single complaint being that the album was too short. The EP has remained on the very short list of CD Baby Editor’s Picks on both of its listed genres (Trance and Dub) for over seven years. The band’s track, “Bled,” Was one of the top 20 songs of all time on the electronic charts of the former Garageband.com. Music from this EP was featured in the Stu Pollard film, “Keep your Distance.” The creators of Louisville’s yearly ‘best of’ compilation, “Louisville is for Lovers,” have selected Seluah’s music three times for their annual album. Soon after the band’s self-produced album was released, it was promoted for national distribution by Touch and Go Records. Seluah has toured with The Shipping News and Rachel’s in addition to sharing the bill with Macha, Yo La Tengo, Mono, VHS or Beta, Chin Chin, Matt Pond PA, & Maserati.

Selected Reviews:
In a just world this record would go down in history! Listening to Seluah is like traveling to another place in your universe...like sleeping peacefully while you're awake...like traversing great distances, only to arrive at a place where you are welcome and known. This album is recognizable only by those who hear it, having no equal or nothing with which to compare. I listen to sleep at night, and wake to listen by day. Thoughtful, emotional, peaceful, original, and brave. ***** Five Stars. Highly recommended. ---- (d.w.box)
Seluah released only one record… but it remains a favorite among followers of Louisville music, here and nationally. Its mix of ambient trip-hop, deep bass and shoegazer guitars was a welcome departure for a scene that had gotten a little incestuous. — Jeffrey Lee Puckett, The Courier-Journal
"This album is the perfect soundtrack for alien porn filmed in a rift of the space-time continuum. Pink Floyd-esque ambience meets Portishead beats with a smattering of Radiohead-like vocals. But this is far from derivative. Those comparisons are just an attempt to describe this band's unique psychedelic sound. Seluah mixes old pop devices and electronic etheralism to create music that is without time; in the middle of time. Like Brad Pitt portraying a sexy criminal in a noir film full of spaceships and time warps..." Rob Monroe, Finding Datura Ezine

Down tone good.
Even though there isn't much length to this CD, it is certainly worth the buy. Each track has it's own individual appeal, but there is always a slow, engrossing vibe to the sound.

What can I say? Just great

Another Seluah track
An amazing CD--the only problem I have with it is that it's too short. Anyone who liked this should seek out the Louisville is for Lovers 2003 compilation CD, where I first heard about Seluah. Their contribution, "Black Dress Revolution," is worth the price of the whole dang compilation.
Also, CD Baby deserves praise for getting this great but hard to find CD to me pronto.
