New York-based indie singer/songwriter Alan Semerdjian has quieted down considerably since his days fronting the sonic alt-pop outfit Surreal. Although the driving grooves and swirling guitars are missing, Alan's current work still has the same attention to craft and poetic sensibility of his earlier days as well as the deep melodic longing that earned him the respect of critics, fans across east coast and beyond, CMJ attention and radio airplay, and television and film credits. His new work, which features the production work of longtime friend and collaborateur Michael Bloom (Rilo Kiley, The Elected), Phil Jimenez (Wheatus, Gordo Gringo), and Brian Blackburn, blends together indie-folk pop, alt-country, forays into the world of lo-fi punk and free jazz, as well as subtle hints of his Armenian heritage to create a mature document of underground songwriting - quirky and real, full of loss and hope and heartfelt abstraction. Deep and layered. The cd would be wonderful background music except that you wouldn't want to miss the lyrics. So it's a treat on both levels! Beautiful and intriguing. Get folks listening to this one...lovely.

The resonant tone of Mr. Semerdjian's tenor combined with daring lyrics that speak of the universe & the individual at the same time form a voice that is not heard enough in popular music. Echoes of Bob Dylan, Elliot Smith, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Wallflowers, etc. come to mind. Much poetry happening & only gets better with each listen. I hear a modern artist that has many reverent ties to the past. Mature yet playful ... keep up the good work!

this cd shows the true range of musical talents with explorations from folk, funk,jazz and r&b.
although this cd is unique it reflects the style which is has become in vogue again ala john mayer and is in every way as effective.
