Album Notes

S.E.M;I is one of the veterans of the electronic-industrial music scene, most recently having toured with Hocico and Haujobb, and his music is as remarkable as that produced by his tourmates! Imagine lush electronic landscapes, caverns of rippling sound, a distorted moon overhead, brightly crested waves rushing shoreward -- and the journey begins. "Among the Ruins" accomplishes the impossible task of combining the poignancy of a destroyed empire with electricity and fire as the journey continues. BLC Productions offers unique EBM-flavored, sometimes dark and sinister, advanced electronica for today's world. A must-have for anyone who wants to be hypnotized by the passion and purity of visions in musical form.

killer industrial!
author: Black Sheep Zine
In 2003, Mike Orgillon brings us his debut-released album AMONG THE RUINS on the BLC PRODUCTIONS label. AMONG THE RUINS is definitely a killer Industrial album filled with perfect noise, bright textures, and excellent melodies! If you love POWER and NOISE, but despise POWERNOISE, then this is a must-have! The opener to AMONG THE RUINS is entitled "Frequency". I hesitated to think this during my first listen, but my first impression was that the sound was very similar to a FLA side-project. An obvious similarity is that AMONG THE RUINS is almost all instrumental, but also similar in the sense of changing rhythms, atmospheric refrain-harmonies, and most of all the density (samples and bass lines). Even the transition from "Frequeny" into the second track "Love" is very reminiscent of FLA. However, a minute or so into "Love", you will agree that S.E.M;I is certainly not an FLA side-project. Mike Orgillon does a fascintaing job combining unique and uplifting melodies with just the right amount of samples and noises. The result is simply fascinating! As AMONG THE RUINS proceeds through tracks like "Emotion" and "Depravation", the mood shifts slightly throughout each track, creating a decent mix of styles and intensity. The seventh track "Earth Rotation (Extended Mix)" is the only track on the album that features vocals, and it’s really damn cool! The music in this track reminds me of a 2003 version of the classic Front242 track "Commando Mix" with an excellent DIVERJE-esque vocal track layered on top.
