Album Notes

"Pedro the Lion and John Vanderslice fans' prayers have finally been answered with San Francisco's definition of indie talent. To many it's obvious that Send for Help is not a band that will be overlooked"
-Zero Magazine, June 2005

Send for Help is an independent rock band based in San Francisco, CA. In the vein of indie rock predecessors both classic (Pavement, Superchunk, Archers of Loaf, Guided By Voices) and more recent (Modest Mouse, Pinback, Death Cab for Cutie, Rogue Wave), the band layers complementary guitar lines over atmospheric bass lines that fit together like pieces in a puzzle. When supported by driving yet upbeat drumming, they build a rich sound layered with nuances and unexpected turns, but also plenty of hooks for the kids.

The band was formed in late 2004, when Ohio transplant singer/songwriter/guitarist George D'Annunzio met up with San Francisco-based guitarist Mike Damiani. Within months, the two completed a three-song demo and started performing live with the help of various friends filling in on bass and drum parts they had written. In early 2005, they found both bass player/singer Stephanie Bornstein and drummer Charlie Knote, and the band was complete. Throughout the spring, the band finished recording tracks for its debut EP at Tiny Telephone Studios in San Francisco.

Live: Based on their early three-song demo, within months of forming, Send for Help was booked to open for national touring acts at San Francisco's major venues, including The Fillmore poster room (for Pinback), The Independent (for New York bands We Are Scientists (Sony) and Bishop Allen), and Cafe Du Nord (for Los Angeles band West Indian Girl (Astralworks) and British band Hard-Fi (Atlantic)).

Radio: In the winter of 2004, an early demo version of Send for Help's song "Long Distance Goodbye" was chosen as one of a handful of finalists out of hundreds of bands competing to open for Modest Mouse in San Francisco radio station Live 105's "Not So Silent Night Local Band Competition."

Recently, songs from the debut EP have been played on Live 105 in SF, Indie 103.1 in Los Angeles, as well San Francisco online radio stations SOMAFM.com and Bagelradio.com.

This EP is amazing and you should also go see them live. Even though it may be only an EP this is a good sign of things to come. Also you should check out Birdmonster, if you enjoy this.
