REMEMBER WHEN...
"The New Century Singers 1966 farewell spring concert at Juniata College, Huntingdon, PA, resulted in one of the most impressuive receptions ever given a college entertainment group."--Juniata College press release, 1966
The "Singers" performed widely for three years including college and high school concerts, radio and TV, as well as recording two 45 single records and an LP album. Their recordings were produced by Ray Vernon, brother of rock guitar legend, Link Wray. The group also opened for comedian-activist Dick Gregory at Lycoming College (PA) and received an invitation to appear on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show which, unfortunately, came after the group had disbanded.
This CD enhancement by Steve Engle of the original live reel-to-reel tape captures the group's originality, versatility and sense of humor in the tradition of such folk groups as The Kingston Trio, The Serendipity Singers, The New Christy Minstrels and Chad Mitchell Trio.
The 1965-66 group consisted of Don Armstrong '68, Bill Brubaker '67, Pat Dove '67, Dave Gould '67, Steve Engle '66,
Bob McDowell '67, Kirsten Miller '67, Paul Morse '67, and
John "Pogo" Russell '68 on string bass.
The concert begins with an introduction by "Mr. Juniata," Harold "H. B." Brumbaugh '33.
Juniata College grads from this era may also recognize many of the numbers including Dave Gould's and Paul Morse's rendition of Phil Och's "Draft Dodger Rag!" (All selections recorded on the original LP album are represented here plus several more.)
Quoting from their ballad, Soft Summer Nights: "Many are the times my mind wanders back to those days long ago..."
Join us for some fond musical memories! (59:08 minutes.)

This as a great quality cd, with talented singers and musicians performing original songs and memorable songs by other artists. The songs bring back wonderful memories of the 60's, without feeling dated.

Remember hearing them at Juniata college in concert. Amazing quality considering the taping equipment they were working with. Listening to it makes me feel young again.
