I can't get enough of Sera Cahoone

Personally, I give this SIX STARS out of five. I do realize however, it may not appeal to everyone. I believe it SHOULD, but ..... I first heard Sera through her video for "Couch Song". I thought it was beautiful, sparse, compelling. I did'nt expect everything on the CD to be as good. I WAS WRONG. I listened to this CD 8 times in a row. Each time I found something new to love about it. The deceptive arrangements contain a depth that rewards repeated plays. There are many more layers to these songs than it would seem at first. Her voice is achingly beautiful. It may not be silky smooth, but it's all heart and soul. Sera draws you in like a dream that's just out of memories reach, and you want so much to remember because you know there is a compelling truth to be found if you could only get to it. I have no idea why so many people are comparing her to Chan Gailey( Cat Power ) This first release tops anything I've ever heard from Ms. Gailey. Her backing band is top notch. From Steel guitar, to electric , to fiddle (especially fiddle) and bass the band "gets" Sera's songs. I can't envision a time when this CD will be very far from my player. Where I go, it goes. And I'm sure I'll find something new to love about it no matter how many times I play it.

Sera Cahoone

I usually judge the artists I'd like to hear by either hearing one of their songs, already knowing their music, or by looking at their faces. I saw Sera's face in Folio Weekly (Jacksonville, FL) and wanted to buy here cd's (I purchased "Only As The Day Is Long" also). I did. And I was not dissapointed. I am not a fan of country music but her voice and the unique way in which the country is mixed makes it altogether different and I love it. I am a huge fan of Suzanne Vega and Natalie Merchant. I would love to see Sera in a concert with them.

Nice and laid back with a folk/country groove

Whoever said this was like Mazzy Star got it right... a little more lively than MS (but not much), with some folky and country touches in the backing. No killer tunes, but the whole thing is niiice.

Great job Sera. This CD is so amazing. Also, the drums on Band of Horses is amazing too!
