Album Notes

The MsAdventures of Artemis is a CD Trilogy that continues the journey on, from Seraya’s The Prodigal Daughter. Having turned her back on a label, publishing and management, her work carries the signature of a woman free to create as she pleases. Her music still features strings, catchy melodies, moody undertones and emotional deliveries. Whilst the tunes are just as infectious, this is a more raw and vulnerable artist we are now exposed to.
Notable also, is Seraya’s disregard for sticking to the confines of a genre or style. Says the artist “A&R Guys and Marketing Departments needed me to fit neatly into a box they could define, package and present. I find it hard to understand how people in such a creative industry can want to do that. For me, it’s like telling a painter “Paint me some interesting pictures… but only use one brush and one color”. I believe, to be truly creative we can’t be dictated to by rules and conventions. Isn’t it the chaos and breaking of rules that brings about something original?”
The MsAdventures of Artemis glides effortlessly and without apology from a feel you may call pop, country, orchestral, dance…and maybe even a touch of Doris Day!!
These songs take you on a modern day journey into contemporary issues, some framed in tracks like Don’t Go Falling -The RSVP Blues (a comment on modern dating), Sweet Joy and Pain (addresses her three close encounters with large scale natural disasters), Reconciliation (from a family of mixed color, born in Sth Africa, a view on prejudice of all kinds), Plan B -The Ballad of a Starter Wife and Mstery (a journey inside).
This three part album is a solid and worthy offering. Its Seraya, boldly flying in the face of convention to do what she does best…”her own thing”.
