Album Notes

Riddled with a manic propensity to over think, and an obsession for all things with strings, this Winnipeg born and raised singer-songwriter began her musical journey by taking a "back lane forgotten" guitar and going toe-to-toe poetically with her own reflection and imagination.

In 2005 local film producer Kevin Doherty discovered Serena busking the streets of Winnipeg. Inspired, he invited her to provide some music for a project he was casting. Not only will her song Lullaby be used in Doherty's project, but she was later asked to also play a small part in the film expected to be released in 2007.

Testing out her material on the street it wasn't long before Serena was requested to come out, plug in and share the stage with some of Winnipeg's finest such as: The Guy Abraham Band; Süss; The Antigravity Project; Twilight Hotel - Brandy Zdan, Dave Quanbury; Romi Mayes; Nathan Rogers; Jeremy Proctor; and from Australia, finger style champion Dale Willis. She has appeared in and around Winnipeg as well as on radio spots with Liz Clayton and Benjamin Paul of UMFM, Margaux Watt at CBC Radio; Breakfast Television on a repeat basis; as well as Shaw Television.

Serena has lent her voice to other Manitoba Musicians such as Jet Set Satellite for an acoustic remake of a song from their first record, featuring Martha Wainwright, to be released late 2006. Serena also provided backup vocals for Scott Hinkson's 2006 full length release of Tracking Outside In.

Believing and feeling almost as much passion for Serena's music as she does, Scott Hinkson offered to produce her debut release entitled SPARE CHANGE. John Huver of the Perms brings some of his drum magic to the project on "Lose Your Breath". Track number seven, a live bonus track of "Bourbon" previously recorded at the studio of Bryan David Melnyk, features guitar virtuoso Dale Willis from Australia who brings his "holy sh@# finger pickings" to this live track. Hinkson truly captures the essence and haunting elements of the many moods of Serena's music on this EP.

Serena’s debut album has been referred to as “alternative folk music peppered with haunting melodies, exposed and raw vocals lyrically tied up with an unexpected pretty little bow”. It is now available for purchase at The Folk Festival Music Store, Into the Music, Music Trader, CD Plus (Downtown), Keepsakes Art Gallery (in the exchange district) and online at CD Baby.

Serena Postel’s self-honed guitar craft is a beautiful accompaniment to her first instrument, her soulful voice. From the smoky lows and gutsy growls, to the soaring highs, her inflective tone is truly unique, and rings on in the mind of anyone who has had the pleasure of hearing her long after the show is over. Her disarming sense of humour, playful wit and teasing nature, balance her deeply introspective and raw lyrics, which she delivers to her audience with rare honesty. Whether performing solo or accompanied, this songstress has a true capacity to captivate and inspire.

"Serena Postel possesses a raw, feminine talent of which the music world is in dire need. Her rapier wit is a formidable weapon in both her lyricism and her stage banter. She is Winnipeg's firecracker." - Nathan Rogers

A good friend of mine introduced me to this music by Ms. Postel. I have to say I was quite taken by it. Her voice is unique and her lyrics incisive and penetrating. The arrangements are stellar. I look forward to her next release with much anticipation. Very few independent, or for that matter, major label, albums have moved my soul like this one has. I tip my hat to her and look forward to her next release. Babakar Wade Founder of The Headwhiz Consort Moderne Internationale

I seriously can't listen to this cd enough....I have even found myself humming Serena's tunes during my day when I'm away from my stereo. Amazing.....if you get a chance to catch a live performance, she is just as stellar in person as on her cd. Fantastic!
