ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This recording presents Sergi Riabchenko's compositions that were most often performed by the Diakonia Choir over the last three years. Most pieces were written to be performed in regular liturgical services throughout the year, of which a few are for Great Lent and Pascha. Other compositions are solos written specifically for concert performances. The composer, Sergei Riabchenko, was born in 1963 in Zhukovsk (Moscow region) and studied cello with a minor in composition at the Tchaikovsky Conversatory of Music in Moscow. After moving to San Francisco he studied sacred music with Rev. Bazyl Kalinowski, who had been choir master for 30 years of the Orthodox Cathedral in Warsaw (Poland). Sergei Riabchenko has been composing sacred music since the late1990s. He is the choir director at Christ the Saviour Church in San Francisco, California, and cellist with the Alrekin String Quartet.
