This is the debut album from Western New York piano rock band, The Series. It's March 2010 as I write this, and I must say that in retrospect, I'm very proud of this album. John Buteyn, Henry Langston, Mark Miner, and I really didn't know what we were doing way back in 2006 when we released this. Our recording of it was pretty sporadic (In fact, the piano in the song "One Third" was recorded nearly two years before most of the rest of the song). It was a long project, but we all loved doing it. When most bands release their first albums, they often feel embarrassed by them pretty quickly, and definitely as the years go by. While my ears may cringe a little listening to this nearly 5 years after we released it, I still think the songs hold true, and I stand by them proud as ever. We did the best we could at the time, and I think it's an excellent document of those days in our lives. We didn't really have our "sound" at the time, and as you can probably hear, we were searching for it.
"How did songs like "Heard of; Asked of", "Hey Now", and "Sown" all land on the same album," you may ask. We were simply exploring music and the different places we could potentially go with that. And though it's all a big hodgepodge, I believe there is a sound thread that continues all the way through it. I'm not sure how we accomplished that, truthfully.
I stand by this album with joy and pride. I'm sure you'll find it equally enjoyable.

Listened to it, CAN'T GET ENOUGH!!!

This CD kicks you in the face with the first song titled ghost town cowboys. The rest of the CD is basically filling in all other musical niches because there is not one song that I didn't like. Strong Point: Musical awareness and sense of style. Weak Point: Vocals

Beauty

The Series has made a great album. Unlike some bands that every song sounds the same, they like to keep the listener on their toes, wondering what style will come next. And yet, this doesn't seem like a mix tape. They strategically give it a great flow, which is not an easy thing to do, and despite the variety, there is a certain signature sound that outlines each track, but you can never quite put your finger on it. I'm sure that there is at least ONE song on here that you'll love, but chances are, you'll fall in love with the entire thing.
