Serundal’s first album ‘Transitions’ celebrates not only a change in musical direction but is also an insight into how every aspect of life itself is constantly changing or resisting change.
The mythical place of ‘Serundal’ like any other in the modern world is always under threat from the darkest forces. Their struggle is to keep their culture, beliefs and their identity and resist the change that could easily be enforced upon them.
‘Iona’ tells the story of an island scarred by tragedy and grief that is a fisherman’s heavy burden. Beautiful but cruel the Sound of Iona took many lives over the years and for one man who thought he would never see his family again the cost of keeping on the traditions of generations became to much to bear. Sometimes it seems you must except change or die.
In ‘Stranger of Sidh’ and ‘Child of the Innocence’ intuitive and supernatural beings have the power to change the lives of mortals and are even changed themselves by the experience. Even an alchemist like Merlin himself in ‘Incantation’ changes his own role in history when he forges Excalibur.
Change often means leaving our physical world behind and stepping out into the unknown as in ‘The Omen’. It is the ultimate leap of faith. In ‘Eagle’ the desert is where a bird of prey maintains the balance of nature and the cycle of life and death.
Finally, the last track ‘Imagination’ praises humanity’s ability to create, adapt and learn from another world; the world inside your mind. It is as elusive as the sifting sand always changing yet somehow always so very real.
