Session Americana - the roots round table whose accidental beginning in a small Cambridge pub has grown into a local phenomenon â¹ has drawn praise from fans (of all ages!), accolades from the press, and has become a magnet for like minded musicians who appreciate the spontaneity, the simplicity, and the devil-may-care attitude that makes the band so much fun to watch.
The core group of Ry Cavanaugh, Sean Staples, Jimmy Fitting, Billy Beard, Dinty Childs and Kimon Kirk sit in a circle around one microphone and play music from their memory â¹ pulling out some old and some not-so-old nuggets steeped in the tradition of American blues, country, rock and folk - the music that has become known as Americana. Fans such as Mark Erelli, Peter Mulvey, Peter Wolf and others have been known to stop by and sit in for a few songs with the band.
The new CD was produced by Billy Conway (Morphine, Twinemen) and engineered by Tom Dube. Guest musicians on the new CD include Dennis Brennan, Chris Ballew (Presidents of the United States of America), Jennifer Kimball, Rose Polenzani, Merrie Amsterburg and Peter Linton, Asa Brebner, Laurie Sargent, Dan Keller, Tim Gearan, Jabe Beyer, Andrew Mazzone, Duke Levine, Eric Royer, and Billy Conway.

non-silly songs good

There are a few great songs on this album, but they are interspersed among some pretty lame silly ones. But since I don't know another album by this band, it's worth having. For instance, "Lighthouse Light," "Boats up the River," and "Point of No Return" are great. But "Party in the Woods," "Run Baby Run," and the other baby songs are pretty grating. But worth they buy.
