Album Notes

This collection of songs was recorded during 2004-2005. Seth had the pleasure of being the sole occupant of an old dilapidated/nearly condemned 4-plex near NW 21st Avenue and Flanders in Portland, OR, which meant he had a few apartments at his disposal for whatever activity presented itself in the moment. Coincidentally/conveniently at that time various items began appearing on his doorstep- from potted plants/books of poetry/bottles of wine (compliments of songstress Alexa Wiley) to microphones/amplifiers/suitcases of snakes/cords (compliments of Norvin Johnson) to abstract paintings by Matthew Hendricks... Thus the beginnings of a music studio materialized that began relocating itself/traveling to and fro within the various apartments of the building, eventually to find a resting place next to the fireplace in Apt. #3 across the hall from Seth's bedroom in Apt. #4. All these tunes document that chunk of road when Seth could wake up in the wee hours, stumble out of bed, and press record with very little concern for who might be listening - then or later. Thus the very unedited nature of this body of work. The reverb that you hear on this record isn't from a piece of outboard gear - it is from the actual sound of the various hardwood floored rooms in that house at 2125 NW Flanders St. - the one with tarps on the roof, broken/boarded up windows, and the look of decades of neglect - the latest of which has found it stripped of asbestos siding, wrapped in chain link fence, and then abandoned... yet again. Guest artists include: Scott Gilman, Kristin Krawcyzk, Tahlia Harrison, and David Lipkind. Photography by Kat Nyberg.
