It started when Seth was given (loaned) a seventy-year old dobro. Actually it probably started a long time ago when he was a kid and his Grandpa sang Old Shep to him. Made him cry every time. Every time.
The mournful sound of that old dobro took Seth back to those summer days on the front porch. When people gather there to sing, it's always the old country songs that hold sway so Seth decided the best way to use that dobro was to record a handful of those old songs. He picked his favorite sad songs (and one kind of funny one) and sat down in front of the old tape machine and let the tape roll.
The spirit (and the recording/producing) of Cryin' Songs recalls the rough-around-the-edges front porch jams where everyone's got a drink and a guitar. As the music plays, you can almost hear the wind in the hay fields while the frogs and crickets sing along.
