Hailing from Madison, WI and Minneapolis, MN, Seventeen Rhinos formed in 1994 and commenced to stampede through the upper Midwest like wildfire through the Serengeti.
After being named one of the top 20 unsigned artists in the United States in 1994 in the Yamaha Soundcheck Music Showcase, the Rhinos were signed to Metro Records (Minneapolis, MN) and soon released their debut album, Twice Around the Sun.
Their first radio release, “Sleepwalker,” which the band used to break into the radio scene in March 1996, spent more than 20 weeks in radio rotation on stations in the Upper Midwest and finished in WJJO's Top 94 Rock Tunes of All Time poll.
The band followed with its second CD in 1997, Planet Indigo, which featured two regional radio hits, "Mother's Love" and "Flowers & Amphetamines."
The band became known for its brand of hard-charging, chest-thumping alt rock and a knack for high-energy shows that drew large crowds and earned the band chances to share billings with the likes of Smashmouth, Cheap Trick, Spacehog, and Badfinger.
