‘Sound Collector’ is the debut EP release from Sewblue, a group of grounded dreamers led by Singer-Songwriter Chelsea Smith based out of Portland, Oregon. Sewblue tunes you in to a folky frequency delivered with vocal prowess and the expressive and playful accompaniment of strings and percussion. "Sound Collector" features six of their latest and best tracks. Each song confidently charts its own course and explores different emotional and thematic territory.
The record represents the current culmination of a project Smith started 4 years ago. As a solo artist her focus has been lyrical and melodic, but the sound has shifted comfortably with the addition of violin and plucky bass-lines, rounded out by a hand-made marimba. Songs like "Buzzt" take the listener on a gypsy-style adventure full of mischief while "You're Pretty" recalls the cheeky confidence of a pop-friendly Lou Reed. Finally, tunes like "Desert Suns" are a more melancholy expression of releasing the past to enter an unknown future.
Sewblue is Chelsea Smith on guitar and vocals, Jacob Mestman on upright bass, Andrew Mueller on violin, Amanda Fisher on marimba, and now featuring Keith Mikami on drums. Scott McPherson contributes beautiful artwork.
