Album Notes

The Sexican plays mariachi inspired gipsy rock with a twist of protest punk! So you’re warned. Because this is not some ego-like and empty press release phrase. On the contrary it’s the closest reviewers and outsiders have come to an agreement on labeling The Sexican. ‘It’s not our slightest intention to label ourselves – that has to be some other peoples’ self-chosen headache.’ Mike H – the bands’ front man and primary songwriter - laughs and emphasizes: ‘We are inspired by everything from Cuban folklore to Hungarian polka and we’ll use it, if it seems to underline the message of the songs.’ The tone of the lyrics is sharp and often with critical views on modern society and the lack of international community, while there is still room for the celebration and the ‘joie de vivre’ – joy of life. The latter is especially noticeable at their explosive live-shows. Therefore it is not a coincidence that ‘energy’ is the word repeated through every single review the band has gotten in its merely two years of existence. Playing live is the bands’ major asset and purpose and their performances have resulted in recognition and surprised interest everywhere the band has played - recently earning a five-star review upon playing at major Danish stage Voxhall. An announcer proclaimed most evidently on stage upon one of their recent performances: ‘Holy sh** - that was like 20 litres of Red Bull poured all over the stage!’
