Album Notes

\"The Sexytime Explosion are deafening. Ear-manglingly loud. Supersonic megafast. They\'ll blame this on their new quick-tempoed drummer Chris Clawson, but they don\'t hate him for it-they like it this way. Singer Jackie Ojeda tells us the aural pummeling \"helps keep people\'s attention when they\'re unfamiliar with the songs.\" It\'s also natural to ask what they really think about their name, which was once explained by bassist Travis Laws as having been lifted in a moment of sometimes-regretted smoky inspiration from a bit on Da Ali G show-not just any old orgasm reference, Ojeda quickly reminds us, but a specific reference to a camel sploogie acheived with the help of a man\'s hand. Their music, at lesser decibles, is slippery in its frantic forward propulsion. Guitarist Veronica Cruz cranks out that swaying Gibson sheen Fugazi used to crinkle up and shake the shit out of, while Ojeda seems to be trying to fight it with the blasts she pumps from her Roland (her voice has enough range to ride the styles and stay on for changes that threaten teh finer parts of the aural cavity). Laws is a well-traveled musician who not only owns Descendants and Fela Kuti albums, but he\'s also played in bands that sounded like them. And if we can hear the finesse when it\'s practically hurting, a simple return to the comfortable listening levels of a typical rock show promises to reveal plenty.\" - Michael Coyle, OC Weekly
