The Challenge
On May 1st, 2000 Dayla Soul and her compadres created a singer-songwriter competition that not only provided the winner with a pro C.D., website, video and Saturday night gig at the Hotel Utah: but also saved the Hotel Utah from going under. Wow, what a challenge. We revisited the challenge 2000 in 2002 with a new mission: to celebrate our passion for expression; to acknowledge the abundance of talent in our midst; and to forward a few of our finest.

As the host of the Hotel Utah open mic and the Challenge 2002, it was my objective to celebrate: bring light and public awareness to the gem that one local musician calls \"San Francisco\'s naked underground.\" We now begin to bring this \"underground\" to the foreground and expose our truly amazing passion and talent for expression and music to the greater public. Thank you for supporting this mission. The Challenge 2002 CD documents the birth of a rich tradition. Hold on to this CD. It\'s a collector\'s item.
