Album Notes

The San Francisco Saxophone Quartet began as a group of buskers playing on the streets of San Francisco in the '80's. The Quartet brought style and dash to the position of street musicians by playing in white tie and tails and performing its own transcriptions of the masterworks of Bach and Mozart. The group went on to tour extensively around the USA (five tours) and Japan (once). The Quartet has performed at the San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival seven times and has filled Davies Symphony Hall (home of the San Francisco Symphony) for four annual concerts.

Throughout its existence, the San Francisco Saxophone Quartet has emphasized stellar quality and musicianship. All its arrangements are loving and authentic reproductions of the original composers' intentions. No parts are simplified, no essential notes are omitted. Close your eyes, and you'll think you are hearing Baroque trumpets, horns, strings.

REVIEWS

All of the SF Saxophone Quartet CDs are fabulous. It is amazing the sound, color, variety, and complexity these very talented musicians get out of their instruments. Hard to believe all the instruments are saxs. If you ever have a chance to see them in person, you are in for a memorable treat.
