Lady J…hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio, is a lyricist, poet and singer with over 10 years of performance and studio experience.

J, as most call her, began performing with local R&B/Funk cover bands, then branched out as the Front Woman for the soulful collective, Shades of J. This experience has given her the opportunity to work with or open for Howard Hewitt, Bloodstone, War, Slave, Barrington Henderson (lead singer for the Temptations), Kirk Whalum, Rayse Biggs (Trumpeter for Kem), and “The Saxtress”, Pamela Williams; as a writer she has penned songs with former Earth, Wind and Fire guitarist, Sheldon Reynolds and is featured on the Devoted Spirit’s album, “The Answer”.

Shades of J is Poetry & Spoken Word ~ Shades of J is Soul Music…and these two genres, sprinkled with a hint of Jazz, meld together like your favorite dish. The poetry is thought-provoking and inspirational; the music is old school – Live Instrumentation!

The Shades of J experience is warm and seductive and has been described as “Unique & Soul Stirring”…a “Quiet Revolution”. Lady J makes a sincere and intimate connection with her audience as though they were kickin’ it in her living room; or, like she’s laying out her song to you in an intimate corner of the room.

The "Shades of J" debut CD, along with her inspiring performances, earned a nomination for a 2007 & 2008 Cincinnati City Beat CEA Award.

Shades of J can pull off a full 6-piece band or a more intimate acoustic set with guitar and flute, depending on the venue or event.
