The Shadow Mountain String Band, Colorado’s Premiere Victorian Dance Band, has been playing music for Victorian era dancing for more than twenty years in and around the mountain west. The music comes from Ireland, Scotland, Britain, Canada, Appalachia, and points west. Reels, waltzes, polkas, jigs, and even a Schottische fill out the dance card. Go back in time to the elegant Victorian era when real men knew how to treat a lady with gracious manner, could ride like the wind, could shoot a plugged nickel and leave two cents change, and could dance with style not seen in a hundred years.

Beautiful, bright, uplifting music. It takes you away. You can't listen without a smile. This is the kind of music the world needs right now.

Play Another Reel
author: Jason Landry - Gypsy Rover Review
This is a great time to be a fan of traditional music. Take, for example, the music of the Shadow Mountain String Band, a regional dance band from Colorado Springs. It is pure, undiluted, and straight from the heart. This is a small band with a big sound.
Play Another Reel emphasizes dancing and features waltzes, jigs, and reels, but it is also outstanding listening as well. We couldn’t sit still listening to Whiskey Before Breakfast. That can be downright distracting while driving in traffic.
. . .their take on the Westphalia Waltz is as fine as any we’ve heard with insightful harmonies that go places we never expected. And you might think Cue’s Mug was backed by a full orchestra. The “funky rock” arrangement of Drowsy Maggie is unlike anything we have ever heard; unique, original, and completely delightful.

We attended your dance and thoroughly enjoyed the music. This CD is an excellent example of the music of our past. Americana at its best. Well done!
