THE SHAGS, often mentioned in the same breath as power-pop heavyweights The Raspberries, Jellyfish, and The Fountains of Wayne, answer that question with their latest single "Vacation" -- a mini-masterpiece that will instantly transport you to a lazy summer evening at the Jersey shore.
The creative force behind THE SHAGS is singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Chuck Penza. His combination of clever storytelling and nostalgic musical sensibility has earned him comparisons to song writing icons Paul McCartney and Elvis Costello.
THE SHAGS' rhythm section is powered by the ferocious drumming of J.J. Fennimore. Often referred to as "the cute Shag," Fennimore's life story provided the inspiration for Via Satellite's shortest track, "J.J.'s Theme Song."
Sideman extra ordinaire, James Caputo, has recently thrown his hat into the ring, and will supply his vintage guitar tones and legendary vocal harmonies to the mix.
When asked why THE SHAGS are so fond of the classic pop/rock of the late 60s and early 70s, Penza responds by saying, "Modern rock sounds so generic to me. Bands from 30 years ago seemed to have a musical identity. Today, you can still hear a difference between the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. I can't hear much difference between bands like Pearl Jam and Creed."
THE SHAGS are currently promoting Via Satellite with a number of high-energy live shows in the Philadelphia/South Jersey area. Look for them to turn Atlantic City's McGuire's Erin Bar into a power-pop Mecca. A recent distribution deal with Kool Kat Musik (www.koolkatmusik.com) should send sales of the cd through the roof.

Finally, a band that puts the emphasis on the positives. Here are songs about summertime, fantasy, love, and getting off work to go have a cold one. The Shags get it. Sometimes we just want to sing-a-long and have fun.
