Album Notes

Platinum selling R&B super group SHAI has a new album called"Love Cycle" which shows the world that the legendary group that brought you great music is back in a big way. Spend some time getting reunited with this R&B super group. Yes, the same SHAI. Best known for their 1993 triple-platinum single and album, ‘If I Ever Fall In Love’, the men of SHAI: Darnell Van Rensalier, Erik Willis, Garfield Bright, and Marc Gay are set to emerge with the same force and respect they commanded in their freshman effort. In a time when grass roots music seems to be slipping away to the constant theft of samples and remakes, SHAI emerged onto the music scene with a soulful sound felt by men and women alike. After being discouraged and denied recording deals by some of the biggest labels in the industry, SHAI took matters into their own hands and asked a friend at a local Washington, DC radio station to play the now and forever famous track. In the first hour, the station received so many calls the song was added into regular rotation. Within weeks, SHAI had a number one single under their belt with no record company pushing their product. This would soon change as the same labels that once were uninterested to SHAI’s original style of music came knocking, and knocking hard. Each was eager to sign SHAI and cash in on SHAI’s overnight success. The four talented Howard University students living in the dorms, went from hanging in the yard, to hanging with Arsenio Hall and the likes in Hollywood. Representing Patterson, New Jersey; Seattle, Washington; Boston, Massachusetts; and Miami, Florida, each member still claims DC as their ‘honorary’ home, and WPGC as their foundation for radio success. To no one’s surprise, SHAI faced the challenge with ease and took the whole world on a harmonic journey. Their debut album, If I Ever Fall In Love, forged their signature a capella song and boasted four top ten hits including the album’s title, ‘If I Ever Fall In Love’, ‘Comforter’, ‘Baby I’m Yours’, and ‘Together Forever’. Their triple-platinum success encouraged the release of a live project, Right Back At’Cha, featuring the bonus a capella remix of ‘Baby I’m Yours’. Their second project entitled Blackface also proved to be vintage SHAI, with two top 10 hits including ‘Come With Me’ and ‘Don’t Want To Be Alone’. A hip-hop remix of ‘I Don’t Want To Be Alone Tonight’ featuring Jay-Z followed their second project. The motion picture Beverly Hills Cop III enjoyed a taste of SHAI’s success when they released ‘Place Where You Belong’ from the movie soundtrack, which achieved Top 10 chart status as well. SHAI was sought after for producing, writing, and vocal collaborations that include such notable jazz artists as Kirk Whalum, Rick Braun, Larry Carlton, and Boney James. Now they have returned with "Love Cycle" So pick it up on I-Tunes and CD Baby Today and start your Love Cycle.

sounds much better than "back from the mystery system" some songs had been reworked & remasterised. production & mix are great. lead vocals are soulful, maybe the harmonies can sound more as they used to be. anyway, it feels so good to hear the melodies again. it is unbelievable and a great pleasure to hear that shai still sound shai even through the years and the evolution of music...keep it up guys, you truly have something unique!!!
