Wowie Zowie Puddin' Pie - The Shake Ups Rock Me Like There's No Tomorrow!
author: Imitation Superhighway
Every once in a while a band comes along that changes the course of human history... An iconic band that defines the time period in which it exists and makes a unique statement in popular music that transcends time and space... So while we're all waiting for that to happen, why not spend some time enjoying the power-pop goodness of this excellent new release, The Shake Ups' "A Twist of Lemon"?!
This album has it all - great tunes with variety, great artwork, and of course "the rock." Play it for your friends, your family and your pets. There's something here for everyone.
"A Twist of Lemon" is a waste of time well spent, I say. Enjoy, munchkins!

"A twist of lemon" proves to be some of his best work.

Back in the 1960's you could go into a record store and most of the time be able to tell if a record was going to rock or not by the cover art. Now day’s bands have flashy cover art with no substance within the sleeve. The Shake Ups bring back the tradition of great cover art with great music in their latest release "A twist of lemon." I have been a fan of the various groups that Patrick O'Conner has performed in and I believe that "A twist of lemon" proves to be some of his best work. This album defines power pop by mixing catchy melodies with great lyrical hooks. Obviously I dig the cover art...I think you get that, but the music speaks for itself. Every song captures your attention with familiar (but not copying) sounds. "You've Got The Number" immediately propels you into the popular rock tones of the guitar driven sound. I also enjoy "Outside Pictures" and Sneaking Suspicion" for their catchy melodies. The other factor that caught my attention on this record was the great production on the songs. The recording quality is great and the composition and overlapping of guitar riffs makes for a symphony of rock and roll pop goodness. I don't know what else to say except that if you enjoy good pop music (beatles, beachboys, kinks, love, sugar, xtc, etc.) then you need this record.
