Album Notes

Shakhan's music emerged from a hobby based around a 4 track tape recorder that was picked up for £50. Shakhan had been singer-songwriters before formation Recording on the 4 track led to assembling their own Mac computer based studio. This musical partnership are pleased to present their debut album, with a sound of its own.

"The System" is a set of protest songs that have a dark lyrical content within what is often a bright musical framework.

Shakhan's sound has a strong orchestrated and sometimes classical pulse together with a contemporary feel and a ballad thing going on. This is from a duo where both are singer/songwriters who compose (much of it in score).

The band's music would not be complete without their tight lyrical compositions. They combine rythmn and rhymn with carefully selected symbolic structures. Instruments you will hear include amongst others: acoustic guitar, bass guitar, electric guitar, cello, flute, mouth organ and piano.

The album has been reviewed by Keith 'MuzikMan' Hannaleck.
He writes:

"I truly admire this artist (Davyd) for having the intestinal fortitude to write and sing about what really goes on inside his mind, many of us would never dare....This is life, this is truth, these are thoughts from dark places"

REVIEWS

The System is a dark, penetrating and controversial collection of tracks.

This music is a horse of a different color, featuring dark eerie soundscapes that you will feel drawn to out of curiosity... (Davyd) Homan's voice is a bit off-key and agitating, but his charming New Zealand accent makes each word more emphatic in each song. Homan's wife Rosie should sing more, her voice is very good. I found her heartfelt performance on 'Journalist' to be one of the highlights of the C.D....Some tracks have an almost ambient sound to them with a backdrop of an organ, then Homan's voice comes in to make you hear what he is singing. I mean you really have to think about the lyrics and that is probably why he sings/talks in Lou Reed sort of way. I am most certain that people who have enjoyed the music of The Velvet Underground or Nico's albums will appreciate this C.D.
