This talented, gifted and vibrant young lady of 21 is the new up-coming star in the local music industry. Born in the beautiful and friendly cat-city (Kuching) of Sarawak, Shal's wish and dream had always been to write & sing meaningful songs and poems so that she can reach out and touch the lives of as many people as possible. Her dream came into reality when her debut album "A Special Note" was launched @ Tribes, Holiday Inn Kuching on 20th November 2004.
Her songs are inspired from a combination of different bands and singers, however they are all written, composed and sung based on her own experiences in life; coping with changes and going through life as a teenager and a young adult. When we listen to her songs, we can feel that most of them relate to the various experiences that people go through in their lives. Songs like "Just Fine", "When Everything Seems Like Nothing" and "Message In A Bottle" are pretty uplifting and inspirational; and "The Voices" relates to society and a need to be appreciated and accepted; "Back to you" relates on changes etc. Shal writes about love, pain, changes and hope. They are beautiful songs which are targeted not only to a certain age group but to people of all ages and walks of life.
"Shal's ability to play the guitar and at the same time sings in her unique style portrays flair and gifts. Her creativity and ability as a budding and promising artiste should be an inspiration to all young people who aspires to excel in the world of music. Shal has created an icon for Sarawak, an icon for her family and an icon for herself. I believe Shal can one day reach her dream and go International", said Hanifah Taib-Alsree, the Guest of Honour and Executive Director of Kristal Harta Sdn Bhd - Cats Radio, during the launching.
At the age of 16 she had formed her first all-girl band called "Miz D'meaner". During this time, she wrote several songs like "When Everything Seems Like Nothing", and with her back-up vocalist Sarah, wrote "Petrified". Later, when some of the band members had to leave Kuching, Shal formed another band called "Leesa Muse" which comprised of 3 main members, ie Shal,Karen & Zal.
In 2004, she met-up with Kiya of the "Vagrants" who co-produced her album @ Zanzibar Music Studio, backed by talented sessionists like Gary Gideon, Aziz and Kiya. She later went to Sydney to get her album mastered by Don Bartley @ Studio 301 in early October 2004.

Shal Sagan has done exceptionally well for a local Malaysian artist on this album. The songs were written and performed by herself and are a reflection of the souls of so many young people today. They are insightful and poetic and make a good start for a debut album !

SO AMAZING!
author: SaMMuEL
Her songs are meaningful to me. It's amazing how she able to put my feelings into words (I can't believe I'm from the same CITY as her!). The album is great. I got it a few weeks ago and I'm still hooked to it until now. It's not like the type you get sick of very easily. It grows on you. Plus...she's an a AMAZING performer! I watch her perform at Bandfest! Very entertaining!!!
