Album Notes
MARGARITA Biography Margarita sound is captivating, once you hear her songs you will never let go of her music and of your life. There is streak of sorrow in Margarita’s songs because of some things she has experienced in her life, and because in some ways our lives are finite, however there is a fountain of youth and passion, and wisdom and eternal beauty and love in her songs. And that is exactly what Margarita is all about. Her music is about hope and life and second chances, and never giving up. Never! And becoming a success despite all the odds against you! Margarita was born in the Ukraine in the city of Dnepropetrovsk. Margarita’s mother is Ukranian and her Father is Jewish and that created some difficulty in the family. Margarita started writing songs when she was only 5 years at the same time when she started attending Classical Music School at the Music School 12 in the Dnepropetrovsk. She was a good student and tried to do her best in everything she did. First 10 years of her childhood Margarita spent with her Angel Grandmother Anna Ivanovna Chorpita. Grandmother read to Margarita fairy tales from the very old book every night. The book was so thick and so old, it was dark Bordeaux Color and the fairytales were so magical and so spiritual. Perhaps this is where mysticism, magic, and faith into something more in life started taking place. And love for songwriting and storytelling. At 10 years old Margarita was accepted to the very prestigious Music School Lisenka for gifted children, to study classical piano. Therefore she had to relocate to Kyiv – the capital of the Ukraine. This school was a very competitive boarding school where children were studying music as well as regular subjects, however main subject was music. At 16 years old age Margarita immigrated to the US due to many circumstances, one of them was poverty. Margarita and her mom had no place to live and no place to call home. She came to the US with nothing but hope and a dream, she did not even speak English. She had literally one pair of jeans and one t-shirts, that’s it. As soon as she came she had to work in a local department store in Brooklyn for minimum wage to make her living. No friends, starting over in a new country not knowing anything, it was beyond “hard”, it was “impossible”…
Yet despite all the odds: MARGARITA won The John Lennon Songwriting Contest, 1st place. The Contest is sponsored by Yoko Ono and BMI for the Best SONG! Margarita has met with Yoko Ono and legendary Producer Arif Mardin. Margarita Shamrakov is a Piano Girl With her new CD’ TRAGEDY” there is no doubt she will take all over the world. This CD was produced by Multi - Platinum Engineer and Producer Mike Anzel. Margarita is a very proud member of Montel Williams Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, and her songs were featured on their yearly compilation in 2006. Margarita is a classically trained pianist and her piano playing is amazing! Margarita plays piano on all songs and wrote all the songs! Margarita has more than 100 songs. Margarita performed all over New York City in places like – The ANNEX, CBGB’s Gallery, Luna Lounge, Symphony Space Bar, Gizzy’s Coffee, Cake Shop, West Nile, Alrene’s Grocery, C-Note,169 Bar, Sidewalk Cafe, the New Yorker Show, Warner Brothers Channel 35, Seize the Night Show and more…

Everybody loves Margarita!
I bought the CD before I'd ever seen Margarita play, though I've seen her many times since. Her music is incredible! I love "Mama," with its little-girl-lost feel and the plea to "save me now." "Tragedy" is awesome, too, as is "Higher Ground..." really, every track here. She sounds as just as great live, stripped down to piano and her wonderful voice, as she does on the recordings. Looking forward to new music from Margarita...!

Margarita IS a Beautiful Soul.
Her Voice, Music, and Lyrics reflect this Intrinsic Beauty. Mike Anzel's production is sophisticated and exemplary and complements her style perfectly. Buy the CD. You won't be disappointed.

This CD brings to you the best that Margarita has to offer!
After having listened to 'NYC', 'Tragedy' and 'Mama' via Margarita's MySpace site many times I was happy to see the arrival of Margarita's full-length CD TRAGEDY. Luckily my 'old' favourites can be found right at the start of this CD, next flowing into the tracks that are new to me. I want to mention the following tunes especially:

Everyone knows the feeling: “No-one loves me like you do…I’m scared to death”. Beautiful layered vocals show all the emotions; feelings of desperation, emptiness and being lonely, bound together perfectly in this song.

'Nothing is forever'
A very catchy dance track enveloped in Margarita’s loveliest melody and vocals.

'Magic City'
Definitely my new 'favourite' with its laid-back verses and Jazzy & rhythmic chorus. It's in the chorus that a hopeful and happy Margarita shines through and that's how we love her best!

‘Higher ground’
“You can’t break me…I will reach the highest ground”. A powerful song in its simplicity. I especially love Margarita singing in the lower regions on this track. Warm and well-rounded vocals.

Even though the title of this CD 'Tragedy' and songs like 'Kill yourself' may imply otherwise this album leads the listener away from outer negativity into the heart of strength that can be found in every individual. We sometimes forget that we can trust our hearts… Margarita brings back to you the feeling of never wanting to give up and the need to believe in yourself. A greater gift she could not give.
