Album Notes

Shanks the Dreamers is the concept music project of multi award winning filmmaker/artist Amir Motlagh(a.k.a Shanks) as he tries to find a way to bridge the gap between all the hopeless beauty of things better left untouched.

The debut release, "A Day Late: Instrumentals for Illegal Aliens" spanned time, specifically from summer 2004 to summer 2006 sprinkled with another 5 months of mixing and mastering, and obsessive compulsive drives. It was recorded as a conceptual solo project first, one in which was going to be under the moniker of Shanks alone, but a small handful of collaborators pitched in during the process and so, to create confusion or to refrain from it, the Dreamers name was incorporated into the final musical moniker.

The album is a mix of Americana highway post rock, shoegaze, modern composition and minimalism with heart.

Many Moments of Zen

I loved this CD because while each one of the equally beautiful songs has its own distinct sound and style, all of them automatically provoke a calming effect for me. The sounds are very sweet and refreshing to hear. Besides appreciating the CD's ability to help me completely chill out and destress, I love how unique it is. Shanks and the Dreamers have very skillfully produced sounds and melodies that are simultaneously original and relaxing.

Etheral rock instrumentals create something akin to world music

A very pleasing album to listen to. It has standard rock instruments (ie guitar, bass, drums) with electronica type effects, which merge to create something akin to world music. I like the cd (worth the price), but wouldn't mind if it were a bit longer.

Musical Poetry

This album is simple, elegant and peotic. Musical poetry is the best way to describe it. The noise elements work in a way without ever being abrasive. That for me is a good thing. I loved it, great find.

It took me to another world for a brief moment

I was very impressed with this CD. There aren't a lot of tracks, six in total and the disc runs a little over twenty minutes, but this album is like a little short story that is very engaging. It leaves you thinking, both during and after. My favorite track was the last track Tweeds, because of its sheer spatial ness. It is a very cosmic track. Its very hard for me to describe the disc and what it sounds like. I dont think its post rock at all, but something else. Something very intimate, familiar but in a distant way. Its mostly aloof, but with a story. I can see myself listening to this often, especially when i dont want to be bothered.
