notes
Shannon Kennedy is a female jazz saxophone and flute player in Southern California playing soprano, alto, tenor, and bari saxes in addition to flute.
Shannon Kennedy's graduation from high school was accompanied with the release of her debut CD "Angel Eyes" which was recorded live in two days in the basement of her high school with other high school musicians. Shannon Kennedy recorded several of her favorite tunes on soprano saxophone, alto saxophone and flute. Greg Vail was also featured playing bari sax on the last track.
Shannon Kennedy is currently attending California State University, Long Beach as a saxophone performance and jazz studies major. Shannon Kennedy has already worked as a professional saxophonist with various groups and has done multiple recordings. Shannon currently performs with her saxophone quartet, in her church's orchestra, a funk band, her own jazz quartet, and with various groups at Cal State Long Beach where she currently attends school.
Some of Shannon's influences include David Liebman (soprano), Michael Brecker (tenor), Joshua Redman (tenor), Kirk Whalum (tenor), Kenny Garrett (alto), Chris Potter (alto), Vincent Herring (alto), Kurt Elling (voice), Bob Mintzer (tenor), and Danilo Lozano (flute). This is a very unique and interesting CD.
author: anonymousShannon's cd is a very unique CD - the original twists on these standard tunes are amazing. And not only is the CD great to listen to from a musician stand point, but even my kids love to listen to this CD. This project is incredible coming from a 17 year old.
Speechless
author: Joel Perkosky; Studio Joel GShannon Kennedy without any question in my mind is the next great influence in smooth jazz music; if not the next great influence on music period. If Kenny G could bring the masses to it's knees with his smooth jazz, I can't wait to hear Shannon on the radio. Keep up the great work!
PERFECTION!!!
author: ginib@houston.rr.comPERFECTION! Shannon Kennedy is an unbelievable musician. She is going places!
somebody to watch
author: sjonesjrmdGood charts unusual arrangements, great flute!! This young lady and her compadres are tight! I am waiting to see what happens next. I would love to hear her tenor sound. Greg Vail does a nice Bari on the last track. With a pedigree like that, who can lose!! Excellent debut effort!!!
Great Job!
author: SaxboyShannon Kennedy has done something really special with this debut effort, Angel Eyes. The songs, arrangements and performance is superb, and this coming from Orange County High School players. Shannon's Sax and Flute sound great and this disc is sure to be the first of many to follow.

In shannons new cd, she manages to merge these standards of jazz with her lush smooth sax(es) and flute sound. I suggest this cd to anybody who is out on the look for upcoming saxophonists/flautists.
