Vancouver, Canada's SHANNON LEE has a winner with this debut albumn of original songs. The disc is replete with smokey vocals, cheeky lyrics and "oh-so-hummable" tunes. Pop/rock - with a smattering of country - it's decidedly sassy.

Album Notes

Shannon Lee is a British Columbian singer/songwriter and musician, originally from Winnipeg, Canada. The sexy brunette has a refreshing vocal style and writes songs that are winners. Mark Collier of MMG Records says, "Shannon Lee is a very talented lady. . she has what I like to call 'The New York' sound.

Shannon Lee is equally comfortable sitting at a grand piano singing jazz and blues or fronting a rock 'n roll band. Her versatility as a multi-instrumentalist, singer, dancer and actor has led to a varied and interesting career as a performer. Her many and varied musical influences include: Diana Krall, Amanda Marshall, James Taylor and Jann Arden.

Shannon can belt out a rocker with the best of them but her sultry voice really shines on her pop & jazz numbers.

Shannon Lee has never been content to "put all her eggs in one basket". She is a graduate of the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Medicine and can occasionally be found saving lives in the ER at a British Columbia Hospital. Shannon is also a published writer whose slice-of-life anecdotes have been featured in STITCHES - the Journal of Medical Humour. If you know a doctor, check out his October 2003 issue of "Stitches" for a write up about Shannon in the ON CALL feature.

During medical school, Shannon enjoyed playing in the cover band "ISIS". "It was a great way to let off a little steam. Medical students tend to take life way too seriously," she laughs. Now that the "education hurdle" is over, Shannon intends to get really serious about her music. "Playing in cover bands was great fun and an excellent experience, however, now I feel I must perform my own music and see where it will take me. My songs have always been well received - interspersed here and there in a cover set. I'm anxious to record them and perhaps even get some airplay to see where they will go."

And she has done just that! Her debut album "Kiss'n Tell" received much critical acclaim. Recently, Shannon has again teamed up with producer/guitarist extraordinaire, Andreas Schuld, (Long John Baldry) to complete her follow-up CD "Pot of Gold" set for release in August 2008. Once again, this disc features original songs penned by Lee and Colin Rankin(Russian Judge).

Cam Bastedo (Reviewer) - February 25, 2004

"Kiss 'n Tell" is a bouncy, radio ready number that - despite it's rock genre billing - would be almost equally at home on either country or AM mainstream radio stations. The melody of this song is easily remembered and quite catchy.

". . .There are no rough edges here: the production is smooth, the playing is tight, the mix is well balanced and the voice - of one Shannon Lee - is silky, suggestive and sultry."

"For some reason, she reminds me of the country artist Loretta Lynn, maybe in part due to her physical appearance, and - yes - perhaps a little bit of Amanda Marshall, whom Lee lists as a major influence. This much is certain: her voice is strong and expressive - easily equal to the task set by her composition."

Shannon Lee - another Canadian talent to be reckoned with!

A new addition to my Favorite Albums list!!!

Here is one very special album. I don't say that lightly, either. There are 13 tracks on the disc and you can cull it all you want without finding anything lower than good. I was impressed with the quality of the music, before: Before learning that ALL of the music and ALL of the lyrics were written by the performing artist, before learning that she is an accomplished performer on guitar and piano, and before learning that she does all this during her off-duty time from working in the Emergency Room of a large Canadian hospital as a trauma physician!! How she can keep all that together is amazing enough, but the real kicker is, this is REALLY GREAT MUSIC!!! This is not just some 'I wish I could sing' joker who strums a guitar and strains trying to hit the high notes. Oh no! This is a real singer who has an excellent voice and who is also an instrumentalist with the knowledge needed to create wonderful musical arrangements!! The album is not what I would call "Country", but is actually more "Pop/Rock" in my opinion, and Shannon has a wee bit of an accent which shows here and there to my Midwest USA ears. My choices for best tracks are as follows: "Kiss 'n Tell", "Jiminy", "When All Is Said And Done", all 3 of which are real toe-tapping rockers, "You Can't Hurt Me Now", a nice slow ballad type with some 'blow you away' guitar parts, and the track which probably comes closest to being country in it's texture, "I've Forgotten To Pray." It's not a 'gospel' song per se, but does have a definite religious nature to it's lyrics. Musically speaking, it's some of the best music I've ever heard!! It has a fiddle and some outstanding guitar phrases giving it a serious 'country' flavor and a driving drum beat that would do any rock song true justice. Top all of that off with Shannon's fine vocals and you have a song that is being added to my list of Favorite Indie Songs , along with three of the others. I believe that just about anyone would find this album to be an excellent addition to their music collection. There's more on my site's Shannon Lee page.
