Album Notes

Sharlene Wallace:
Canadian contemporary folk harpist Sharlene Wallace has reached far beyond the traditions of her instrument in melding various folk, traditional,Classical and avant garde musics into a sound and experience uniquely hers:deeply evocative, rhythmic, lyrical, spacious, complex, subtle, compelling.

Sharlene studied Classical harp with Judy Loman at the University of Toronto (where she received her performance degree), Celtic harp with Kim Robertson and South American harp with Alfredo Rolando Ortiz.

Sharlene has won two international competitions, the Lyon & Healy International Pop & Jazz Lever Harp Competition in Tucson,Arizona and the Concours d'Improvisation de Rencontres Internationales de Harpe Celtique in Dinan,France.

Sharlene 's performances have taken her across North America and France into large concert halls and intimate settings as a solo performer, in ensembles and even guesting with symphony orchestras. She has collaborated with classical, avant garde, traditional, world, jazz and blues musicians such as George Koller, Sal Ferreras, Loretto Reid, Susan Piltch, Kim Robertson, vivie 'vinçent, Kevin Muir, Ben Grossman, Kirk Elliott, Brian Taheny and Lucile Brais-Hildesheim.

Sharlene has appeared on many albums of traditional, instrumental, vocal and Classical artists. She has also created four independent CDs which frequently grace radio airwaves: "the rhyme &the river "was praised in the Toronto Star for "eloquent "music,"expressive ... exotic". "Journey of Shadows "is an album that explores a winter sentiment and elaborates on the amalgam of original, Celtic and South American influences explored on the "rhyme &the river ". "Beyond the Waves" and "Island Mountain" are Sharlene's most recent creations.

As an educator, Sharlene gives many workshops and master classes across North America as well as being on the Faculties of York and Guelph Universities and the Royal Conservatory of Music 's World Music Centre in Toronto. And for something completely different,
Sharlene is the Principal Harpist for the Kingston and Oakville Symphonies!

Celtic Harp and Beyond
author: Chip Monk
Sharlene Wallace stretches the traditional limits of Celtic Harp with her crystalline technique, haunting melodies and rhythmic compositions - I can't stop listening! Her creativity doesn't end with the music, the liner notes completely drew me in and enhanced my experience - some of the best I've read.

who says the harp isn't sexy?
author: Jenmore
For anyone who thought the harp couldn't be a sensual instrument. Wonderful latin rhythms, fantastic harp playing, wonderful accompanying instruments, great music. Highly recommended.
