Description: A lovely mixture of rock tunes, commercial pop, folk, ballad and even a little alternative.
Review Date: MAY-01
I do not believe I can ever recall hearing a whole CD where I can remember and (more importantly) understand all the lyrics of each track, until I listened to ‘Hiya'. Sharp Practise has an unusual sound but not in the weird sense but more a mainstream fusionistic approach with a positive outlook and creativity which is vibrant to say the least. They are gaining much media attention world wide and why wouldn't they? When you present to the public a release such as this one with a lovely mixture of rock tunes, commercial pop, folk, ballad and even a little alternative. I sense a little Pink Floyd, or some similarity to Supertramp, maybe not unlike Billy Joel but very original hence why it is hard to really pinpoint the exact sound that is presented here. All the songs hold that equal quality of high standard musicianship which for the most part evades majority of artists, so in essence what I am saying here is that Sharp Practise has eleven potential number one hits here. I have no doubt in my mind that all ages would enjoy ‘Hiya'.

The music could probably be described as soft rock, a sort of Dire Straits, with faultless musicianship, decent tunes and simple but effective lyrics.

Hard to get out of your head
author: Funky Rock News
Hiya is a tremendous success musically speaking! Lead singer and frontman Nigel Clothier is one of the most talented up and coming musicians in the entire UK. The melodic rhythms, haunting lyrics and fantastic poetic prowess push this band to the forefront of today’s music. If you haven't heard much of this band by all means go out and purchase their debut album. If it's not readily available in your record store you can ask them to order it. These songs are hard to get out of your head.

This is what the press think so far

"Really nice album, fusion of Brit pop & 80's sensibility"
George Graham, WVIA Scranton,PA.
“An atmospheric selection of songs with the emphasis on quality lyrical content.”
Steve Elliott, Olympic Radio
“Jason Matlock (drums) looks like a drummer should – all biceps and tattoos…if well played and well sung melodic music with some excellent lyrics is your tip then get out and buy the album…I can’t recommend it too highly”
Andy Vaughan, Cockney Latic fanzine
“Good-rocking tunes that you sing as you drive your car and the sun is shining, the music is influenced by Bruce Springsteen, Bryan Adams and sure is suitable for the American radio stations.
Billy Ifantis (Skylight – Greece)
“Some people you meet you just get on instantly, well Sharp Practise is like that…familiar, unusual and original, how’s that for a contradiction!
Music Industry Connection, Feb 2001
“Restrained energy that bounces softly in light-hearted summertime fun”
ISWM Indie Pick Of The Month, June 2001
“I think this UK band has a lot of potential. Standout musical moments on this CD include the staggered vocal line on “OK” and the lovely piano work on “It’s Alright”. My favorite track was the rocking “Him or Me”, which really picked up the pace and sounded a bit like Sparks”
Jennifer Layton, Indie-Music.com
"Nigel Clothier’s talent for putting together an intelligent lyric seems to be matched by his ear for a hook…my favourite track is "OK", with it's 'geezer' start and almost RnR innards. It ends up as a cross between Blur and "The Timewarp". Sharp Practise is clearly a band to be admired and to keep an eye open for”
