Album Notes

~~ Sharron Kay King to Release First Christmas Album ~~

RICHMOND, Ind. – 2007 SGM FanFair Awards Female Vocalist of the Year Sharron Kay King will releases her first ever Christmas recording, "Old Ribbons & Bows".

This new album features mostly original music that was written specifically for the record by King, as well as some of Southern Gospel’s most celebrated writers – such as Chris Binion, Twila LaBar, Jeff Ferguson, Tammy Dunaway, and more. The album also features holiday classics like “Oh Beautiful Star of Bethlehem”, “Silent Night, Holy Night”, and “Go Tell It On the Mountain.”

Old Ribbons & Bows features session work from Adam Borden, Steve Brewster, Jackie Miller, Wayne Benson, and more. Milton Smith did all of the orchestrating for the album.

In addition, the new Christmas album features guest vocals from Tammy Dunaway and Kanah Dunaway Lovern (of The Dunaways) on “Go Tell It On the Mountain.”

Vocals were recorded at Straight A Studio and Square One Studios, and Adam Borden and Steve Allen served as the record’s engineers. The album was produced by Les Butler.

“My first Christmas as a child of God is the most treasured memory I have. My children and I hand made all the ornaments for our tree that year, and as we finished up with our decorations, Julie, Jason and Elizabeth all climbed up on the sofa and nestled up under my arms,” remembered Sharron Kay. “As we admired our masterpiece, I began to share with them the story of Jesus’ birth and why we really celebrate Christmas. As they fell off to sleep there in my arms, I began to count my many blessings and praising God for giving me another chance.”

Sharron Kay continued, “I hope that many people can come to cherish the holiday season like I have now that I am a Child of God. I hope these songs can bring that little bit of extra cheer during the busy holiday time.”

Review Album: Old Ribbons & Bows Artist: Sharron Kay King Label: Independent Producer: Les Butler Sharron Kay King has a present for you and it’s all wrapped up in Old Ribbons & Bows. This ten-song album has it all – old traditional Christmas music and exciting new Christmas music – put together in a style that Sharron Kay has made uniquely her own. All the way from the beginning notes of “Still the Greatest Gift of All,” an upbeat song from Sharron Kay’s own pen, to the final notes of “Who Do You Think,” a song by Don and Harold Reid (of the Statler Brothers), the songs on this project will fill your heart and mind with all that is Christmas. “The Way in a Manger for Me,” written by Twila LaBar and Jeff Ferguson, beautifully portrays the Baby who came to provide The Way for us to be reconciled to God. Gordon Bellcase’s composition “Christmas Things I Love” gives us a list from “mama’s fruitcake” to “King of all Kings,” enumerating all the wonderful things about this most wonderful of all Holidays. Sing along with traditional songs like “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem,” Silent Night, Holy Night” and “Go Tell it on the Mountain.” Learn a new song or two – including “A Baby Was Born” and the title song, “Old Ribbons & Bows,” both written by Sharron Kay. Tammy Dunaway’s “Is There Room in Your Christmas for Jesus” will make you stop and think just what place you have given Him in celebration. It’s all great music – well arranged, beautifully orchestrated by Milton Smith and backed by great musicians and vocalists. Treat yourself to a Christmas present beautifully wrapped in Old Ribbons & Bows.
