ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, Shattered Sky is a group that calls upon a broad range of influences and musical backgrounds, which can be heard in the compositions on its debut CD, Shattering Skies. Members Richard Clark and Derek Cvengros' musical development is rooted firmly in the heavy metal genre. Being strong believers that listening to music is just as important to one's progression as a musician as performing/practicing music is, both musicians expanded themselves into the acoustic genre. Shattered Sky was born out of this musical expansion.

The music on the group's debut CD seeks to break away from the typical, chord-strumming type of writing and focuses on structured vocal melodies accompanied by intricate rhythm guitars and lead guitar melodies and harmonies. In an effort to add another dynamic to its sound, Shattered Sky also incorporates the djembe and bongos as percussion on a number of its songs. Lyrically, the songs examine a broad base of themes ranging from America's Wild West in the track Unforgiven to a Michigan lighthouse in the song The Stannard Rock Light.

"To me, Shattered Sky allows me to do whatever I want musically, which is what this is about. One of the biggest deterrents as a songwriter is that your song will be misunderstood, under=appreciated, or perhaps not even noticed. That is a risk songwriters take. When things get hard, the thing that keeps me doing this is passion. The artists that survive in music are passionate about their craft, and their listeners know that. It is my sincere hope that anyone who listens to this thoroughly enjoys it and recognizes the passion and effort placed into it." - Richard Clark
