Album Notes

BEEHIVE BURLESQUE by KEN SHAW

This almost out-of-print album was made by Ken Shaw of Salt Lake City and Bernie Larsen of Los Angeles in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan (go figure!), before they morphed with the great Rex Flinner into the Sons-in-Law of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, the best-selling local group in the history of Salt City CD, Utah.

Beehive Burlesque offers an intimate glimpse into the origins of this band. The album also offers real-time data, as all of the eleven songs were recorded in unaltered sequence, without re-take, in one 12-hour period on October 13, 1996. The experimental result, with added bass, harmonies, and keyboard from Larsen and Shaw, is what you hear on Beehive Burlesque. Enjoy the BUZZ!

REVIEWS

beautifully produced
author: William Athey
\"Lights of Broadway\" describes the well-publicized failures of the artificial heart and cold fusion, taking a shot at the building boom preparing Salt Lake City for the Winter Olympics. Then there\'s \"The Millennium\" and while Shaw doesn\'t mention the blowing of the trumpet I\'m sure he thought of it. The emphasis is on the lyrics because Shaw is one of those singer/songwriter folks, but the backing music is well-played and beautifully produced.

Dead-On Sarcastic Commentary
author: Salt Lake City Weekly
The 11 songs are performed entirely by Shaw and Bernie Larsen (ex of Melissa Etheridge and David Lindley's El Rayo-Ex) and would serve as a perfect soundtrack companion to Trent Harris' Mondo Utah. When he sings about testosterone-injected 4x4's on State Street, you know he's been there. Shaw's dead-on sarcastic commentary of all things Zion is framed by some extremely catchy pop-folk stylings--highly recommended for your out-of-state friends who want to know what's really going on here.
