Album Notes

The music of Shawna Locey combines her love of funk, pop, jazz, rock, and soul music to create a different sound with each song. Her songs draw from influences such as Stevie Wonder, Kurt Elling, Lauren Hill, Jamiroquai and Michael Jackson. Touching on subjects of love, fear, frustration and hope, Shawna\'s versatile and sultry voice gives audiences a very personal look into her life.

In late 2007, Shawna took her songs to Contact Create Studios to complete her first album. With the help of her friends in the music community, she was able to rerecord and embellish all of her original songs with the talent of many live musicians. Established players such as Thaddeus Turner of Maktub and Gerald Turner of the Digable Planets, Bubba Jones of Cherrywine, Mark Cardenas of Morris Day and the Time and Darrius Willrich all came and added their personal touches to Shawna\'s songs.

At Central Washington University on music scholarship, Shawna completed a degree in music education. While refining her technical skills as a teacher and vocalist in college, Shawna also continued her life-long passion for dance as a hip-hop dance instructor and choreographer.

Out of college, Shawna taught music in Washington State public schools, while pursuing her dream of performing. She began a funk cover band and soon was singing in front of audiences four nights a week. Though Shawna was performing for many people she was ready for a new challenge. Inspired to expand her musical abilities, Shawna began to create her own music.

With a small studio in her bedroom, Shawna taught herself the latest programs in audio engineering. Soon she was writing and recording her first songs from the ground up. Lyrically, she was inspired to write of her journeys in and out of love.

Now, Shawna Locey is independently releasing her debut songs with her LP album, \"Who Wins.\" She has formed a new band to play her originals live throughout the Northwest United States and has begun writing for her next full release. She sings about soulful new loves and tragic lost love in a way everyone can relate to. Shawna Locey\'s music packed with entertainment, heart, and quality.
