The Shaxe are a central jersey-based alt-southern rock-jam band which was formed in the fall of 1992 by guitarists Mike Liskowitz and Doug Drake, bassist/guitarist Dan Coffey, and drummer Brian Impellizeri. All had played professionally for years before finding a unique chemistry in this lineup.
Any low paying gigs at parties and clubs around the town would follow and eventually Sam Simmons and Tom Stange would join on percussion and sax, respectively. Throughout much of the years 1993-1996 the band would play anywhere they could, honing their style and borrowing much from the grass roots rock of jam bands like the Allmans and the Dead.
By 1996, the band had enough original material to compile for what would be their debut release on Four Twenty Records entitled "Walking Out My Soul", which would sell hundreds of copies in the next year and put the Shaxe on the map as a local house band to the many clubs that fancy that type of music. This record would receive some air play on local stations WDHA in Morristown, WXPN Philly, and The Pipeline Show in Trenton. To date, the band has played several hundred shows and have a very loyal following of fans who often come out to dance at one of the regular group of monthly shows the band performs.
The band has also released their brand new full length studio CD entitled "Lowdown Overload". CD's can be purchased at CDBABY.COM and MP3.COM and The Princeton Record Exchange on S. Tulane St. Princeton 609-921-0881.To book the Shaxe, you can call 609-915-4529 and ask for Dan.

This is one of the CDs you wonder why you've never heard on the radio. It touches on many styles, the musicianship, song writing, and vocals are superb. The songs are catchy. I heard them play live, then listened to the CD. Buy it!!

This one rocks!!
author: Deb Shepardson
Since I have had the pleasure of growing up with these talented artists, I have had the opportunity to watch them really come together and come into their own as a FANTASTIC band!! This CD really shows a diversity and talent that you just don't really get to hear from alot of other musicians. Everytime I put the cd on (and the previous cds: walking out my soul, etc) it seems to fill me up with a sense of ease and I just want to get out there and dance around. Everyone that has had the chance to listen to this band just cannot believe that they have not heard of them before. You guys are going somewhere far! Will follow you anywhere.

A terrific mix of classic rock with some blues
author: Steve Tucker
Let me highlight my personal favorites quickly. "Mellow Down Easy" with its guitar rift and keyboards is up there with Tom Petty. "Ride the High" has my buddy Impy the drummer singing quite well and adds some nice harmony vocals. A cross of Def Leppard and the Outlaws here. Crumble Down to Dust is southern rock tinged with some country rock thrown in, ala the Eagles. Heavy has a madly infectious beat with Tommy Stonga on the saxophone. Reminds me of a girl I used to....anyway..... Chemical, with my man Lisko on the vocals is a love song from everyone's point of view. Finally, Foster Chile kicks in the jam as only the Shaxe can, reminiscent of the Allman Brothers with Mr.Tom Reock adding some kickin' organ. As you can see, if you like your rock and roll with a little touch of jammin' blues, this ones for you!! Way to go boys!!

Shaxe shake up a wide array of influences to create great second CD
author: Glenn Page
wow...the shaxe cd lowdown overload had me dancing and shaking 40 seconds into the cd! This album is tight, and serves up a little bit for everyone, drawing on timeless influences from great classic rock bands like the Allman brothers, the Grateful dead, the Beatles, Santana and even The Eagles. At the same time, they manage to be funkier and more upbeat than most of those bands ever were. The lead vocals are clear and strong, and the harmonies are flawless, flowing over you like a passing breeze through the palm trees. The standout tracks include Mellow Down Easy which opens with classical strings before bursting forth with rocking guitar chords and an agressive lead vocal. Chemical, another favorite of mine, has echoes of both Clapton and the Raspberries coupled with a catchy chorus that I'm still singing. The title track has shades of George Harrison throughout, and it sounds like the quiet Beatle himself smiled down from cloud 9 and blessed this one. Crumbled Down to Dust sounds like something the Eagles or Jackson Browne might have recorded in the early 70's, albeit with a more exhilerating edge to it. The production is clean, and allows the Shaxe's trademark harmonies to shine through. There are other nice touches here and there: from the dreamy, scene-setting opening and the killer sax solo on Scrambled Eggs, to the ska-inspired Heavy and slinky guitar sound on Foster Chile, this is a first rate rock/funk song cycle which allows the band to show off their formidable musical chops. A keeper.
