notes
Hello Sean,
This is a convoluted story but one worth the telling. About a year ago I started dating a woman who had a mixed c.d. that she would play periodically when I was over. There was one song in particular that we both were taken with, and that in fact I would put on when I was there. She had received the c.d. from a friend that she had lost contact with, and there were no names on the c.d., but the mixture on the c.d. was predominately well known people.
At some point we decided to find out somehow or another who the artist was. Consequently I found myself humming the melody and lyrics to 'A Thousand Tiny Pieces' (not knowing that is what the song was called) in music stores across the Bay Area, much to the clerk's amusement. No one knew what the hell I was talking about. So I started playing the song for friends and musicians I know, who loved it, but didn't know who it was.
Time passes and I go on tour with some old friends from L.A. (where I spend a good deal of time in my gypsy unanchored life) and we are passing through S.F. The girl I was dating wanted to come to the show so I told her to bring the c.d. I played it for my friends and my friend, the bass player, Erika goes, " Oh, that is Sean, my old friend Sean, I used to see him play in coffee shops. Gary used to work with him at the Warfield." Pow. I'm thinking this is strange. So I go to Amoeba Records and ask about you and they say they had two copies of 'A Thousand Tiny Pieces' that have long since sold.
More time passes. I'm hanging with some friends in S.F again and we are talking music and I mention your name. My friends Rob and Eric Powell say " Oh yeah, we know him, he just played a week or two ago in our space on Valencia Street. As a matter of fact I have two of his c.d.s in my car right now." I'm floored and ask to borrow them to check out the whole oeuvre. I listen to them, play them for various friends and we all agree that there are some really moving, beautiful and haunting pieces. I am particularly struck, of course, by 'A Thousand Tiny Pieces'...but upon repeated listening some other songs spoke to me, both lyrically and with the minimalist orchestration, 'The Same Moon' and 'She is in Everything' to name a few.
So that's my tale. Just thought I'd drop a line and see if you play out at all, and what your deal is. I'd love to grab a beer one night or something as I think you are talented and your work speaks to me. My name is Naropa Sabine, and I am a fellow voyager in the arts.

a very very favorite musician of mine
author: hannahsean hayes is terrific. this cd is terrific. beautiful and full of passion, love, fury (in small doses) - the whole emotional gamut, really. his voice is unlike any i've heard and is completely hypnotizing. definitely definitely buy this cd.
Lyrics?
author: HannahSean Hayes is amazing, a friend has introduced me to him, and i have all 4 Cd's and some other songs. I was wondering if anyone knows where to find his lyrics?
Sean's voice is a balm for all that ails you
author: SusanI cannot get over how lovely his voice, lyrics, groove and aura continue to get with each successive time I listen to this and all his other albums. He has a way to cure heartaches, reach deep and soothe, inspire and ease. Can't wait to see him live...
it's so rewarding to hunt down an artist, find him on a website and order a CD w
author: claireThe delivery to Canberra, Australia of a CD by Sean Hayes was the end of an interesting journey of discovery. My favourite track on a Ministry of Sound Chillout album was a mix by DJ Mark Farina of Dream Machine. My first challenge was to find out who was singing the words. I then asked for Sean Hayes in every decent music store in Canberra, to no avail. So I ended up on his website where I listened to the bits available from each album. My colleagues and I (we were listening at work) chose A Thousand Tiny Pieces. What a find! I still like the Farina mix the best but I enjoy it all. Funnily enough, the journey ended with me emailing Sean's producer to tell him I'll be in San Francisco for two nights in November and wondered, on the offchance, whether I could catch Sean live ... . What do you know, he emails back saying he's just booked him for one of the nights we're in town!!
i hum it to myself throughout the day
author: jennyi have all of sean's releases and I love him! whenever i want to turn a friend onto his music I give them this particular one as it is by far my favorite. such a hummable song. yum.
Lovely
Awesome cd. Very low key and subtle acoustic tunes. Hayes has a lovely voice that dips and sways in an almost crooning manner. Good for a relaxing rainy day, definite buy.
This was my favorite CD in my collection till my car was robbed.
author: ReganThis CD was my favorite CD until someone broke into my car and stole all my music. They left the Beastie Boys but took Sean Hayes away from me. Very sad. But, his music is haunting to me.

Incredible
Beautiful, like your listening in Sean's living room
author: RebeccaThis Cd is sweet and beautiful. A thousand tiny pieces is heartbreakingly lovely. It is like you are listening in on Sean Hayes playing to himself or a lover. It is great.
hypnotic, insidious,direct stripped folk
author: bobeffhave to rate this 4-star--title tune has played in my head each wake-up for a week (psychosis or symbiosis?) sean was reccommended highly by musician friend; kind of a drum circle with just guitar and voice--simple but it'll reverberate for awhile while the def leppard cd's are in the shop...
tender, brilliant
author: karinmary magdalene... the only thing better than this song is to hear sean playing it live...
fragile, beautiful acoustic songs sung by world-weary dreamer
author: Mike BartlettA stunning collection of simple, acoustic guitar and voice vignettes, very occasionally embellished with a second vocal for harmony. This album deserves a wider audience. Only came to this reviewer's attention due to the Be Good Tanyas playing the title track at a recent gig in London.
