Album Notes

Sheila is a singer songwriter who has been performing at festivals and folk clubs for many years and in many parts of the world. Her first experience at folk festivals was in the "red centre" of Australia followed a few years later by regular appearances at the prestigious Bermuda Folk Club. After being heard singing at an impromptu pub session in Montreal, the following afternoon found Sheila giving a live radio broadcast! She has now come back down to earth and manages to share her music a bit closer to home…..i.e. Edinburgh - Festival Fringe, Glasgow, Glenfarg, Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy…

Being placed amongst the prize winners at the Jack Stewart Memorial song writing competition on many occasions, and gaining first place in 1999 with her song "A Slow March into April" encouraged Sheila to perform more of her own material. The New Makars Trust then featured her song "The People Who Live in the East" on their compilation album "Between the Tay and the Forth".

On numerous occasions she has been invited to join other musicians to represent Glasgow at the annual Burns Supper in Nurnberg, Germany; one of Glasgow's twin cities. Through this connection many musical links and friendships have been forged including her collaboration with the piano and accordion player, Gordon Middler.

Together with Gordon she compiled arrangements of traditional songs and also worked on many of her own compositions - using her distinct guitar accompaniment in all but the solo vocal tracks. Gordon's traditional music background, complemented by his classical training and jazz influences, were the ideal combination for this album. Marie Fielding added fiddle harmonies to many of the tracks, and Christine Hanson, who is known and respected as one of the leading cello players of traditional music, added her own special musical touch.
