Monsoon Dream was created during the August rainy season of southern Arizona, which was fairly good in 2008 and maybe a bit inspiring to southwestern artists Paul Sheldon and Doug Shelton. Having recently met at one of the galleries where they show (Tucson’s Max Gallery), they dicovered that they shared an interest in music. The idea of combining hammered dulcimer and electric guitar seemed intriguing. In the ensuing jam, it was discovered that indeed there was a certain “dreamy” magic to these meandering improvisations. Hence, the name Monsoon Dream.
Paul Sheldon studied art at Northern Arizona University and the University of Arizona. After working under art related careers for years, he decided to enter the fine art field with his bold southwestern paintings and prints. “Color has always been my strongest suit but making unusual compositions is almost as much fun.” Paul‘s work can be seen on the web at www.psheldon.com .
Doug Shelton studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago and earned his BFA at the Chicago Art Institute. With over 20 one person showing in Iowa, Illinois and Arizona, 26 group shows in the Midwest and Southwest, many commissions and a dozen corporate collections, Shelton now lives and works in Tucson. Doug’s work can be seen on the web at www.dougshelton.com .
Both visual artists, of course, are also musicians who have been in numerous bands and tried different styles of music in their creative meaderings. This one seems to fit quite well.
